LFT (Layer Four Traceroute) is a sort of "traceroute" that often works much faster than the commonly-used Van Jacobson method and goes through many configurations of packet-filter based firewalls. More importantly, LFT implements numerous other features, including TCP, UDP, or ICMP-based traces, AS number lookups through several reliable sources, loose source routing, netblock name lookups, and more. LFT also distinguishes between layer-4 protocols, which make its statistics slightly more realistic, and gives a savvy user the ability to trace protocol routes, not just layer-3 hops.
ipcalc takes an IP address and netmask and calculates the resulting broadcast, network, Cisco wildcard mask, and host range. By giving a second netmask, you can design sub- and supernetworks. It is also intended to be a teaching tool and presents the results as easy-to-understand binary values.
SysAid is a dynamic and highly intuitive software solution for small to medium-sized organizations. It provides extensive helpdesk, asset management, monitoring, reports and analysis, knowledgebase, live chat, and IT benchmarking applications in a simple, attractive, and easy-to-use package. The software comes with standardized templates to help you get started right away and fully customizable options to meet your day-to-day IT needs. SysAid manages system vitals by automatically scanning, listing, and monitoring your organization's network (SNMP devices, hardware, software, and change history) and raising early warning alerts (email, SMS).
zrep provides an easy-to-use program to manage zfs filesystem replication and failover. No configuration files are required. The program is developed under Solaris, but may work with any up to date zfs implementation. The executable is a single script. Initialization does a full data copy, but subsequent syncs are incrementals. It uses internal locking to make sure there is no danger of overlap if you just shove it in cron to run every minute. Design target is more "near-time replication", since the sync can be run every minute or more. However, it could conceivably be used for "backup" purposes as well.
LPAR2RRD makes historical, future trends and nearly "realtime" CPU utilization graphs of LPARs and shared CPU usage of IBM Power servers. It collects complete physical and logical configuration of all servers/LPARs. It is agent-less (it gets everything from the HMC/SDMC or IVM). It supports all kinds of logical partitions (AIX/AS400/Linux/VIOS).
Cfg2html is a UNIX shell script that creates HTML and plain ASCII system documentation for software and hardware configurations. It supports HP-UX 10.xx/11.xx, SunOS/Solaris, AIX, SCO Open Server, Linux (SUSE, Debian, and Red Hat), and NT4.0/Win2000 systems. Plugins for SAP R/3, Oracle, Informix, Samba and SWAT, ITO and NNM, XP-Surestore Storage, EVA, SureStore E, SuperDome, OLA/R, SCM, AutoRAID, FC60, Tip/X, MC/SG, and Dataprotector/OmniBack are included.
Host is a complete and powerful command-line based DNS query and testing tool. It has many of the same basic features as other similar tools such as nslookup and dig, but it has more extensive testing and test automation features. Host also has a much more standard (i.e. Unix-based) command-line user interface.
BixData is a cluster management tool that includes monitoring and system administration features. It monitors services (HTTP, ping, POP3, SMTP), performance, and processes. It has a management console for VMWare and Xen that supports multiple virtual machine hosts and guests. It can create critical notifications and send email alerts for any system event (HTTP, ping, CPU, memory, SMART diagnostics, VM stats). A graphical desktop supports real-time dynamic graphs. The runtime agents and server components are lightweight and easy to set up and run.
