zrep provides an easy-to-use program to manage zfs filesystem replication and failover. No configuration files are required. The program is developed under Solaris, but may work with any up to date zfs implementation. The executable is a single script. Initialization does a full data copy, but subsequent syncs are incrementals. It uses internal locking to make sure there is no danger of overlap if you just shove it in cron to run every minute. Design target is more "near-time replication", since the sync can be run every minute or more. However, it could conceivably be used for "backup" purposes as well.

DirSync is a directory synchronizer that takes a source and destination directory as arguments and recursively ensures that the two directories are identical. It can be used to create incremental copies of large chunks of data. For example, if your file server's contents are in the directory /data, you can make a copy in a directory called /backup with the command "dirsync /data /backup." The first time you run it, all data will be copied. On subsequent runs, only the changed files are copied.

No-install Unix Tools for Windows is a collection of 18 of the most useful Cygwin tools packaged into a single 1.1MB (floppy sized) EXE file that runs without any installation process. rsyncbackup is a handy tool for scheduled backups using rsync. rsyncbackup lets you easily setup multiple source folders and destinations, both locally, on your iPod or external firewire disk, or at a remote destination using ssh. rsyncbackup has no GUI, but is based on editing configuration files. The script is meant to be run in a crontab, so user interaction is not neccesary. Basic terminal skills are required to use the program.

The CloneIt system was created to copy and essentially clone harddisks of identical PCs through a network. This is a common task when installing server racks or farms or when updating a computer-lab setup where one deals with identical machines. The system software consists of a Linux boot floppy and a ramdisk floppy with minimal system utilities that can perform the task of copying the complete contents of disk devices through a network.

Hot Copy creates an instant point-in-time snapshot of any block device while the system is running without interrupting applications or requiring the use of LVM. As block level changes are made to the real device, hot copy makes a backup copy of the changed block. The changed blocks are efficiently stored in unused space on your hard disk. These stored changed blocks maintain a point-in-time snapshot and space is only needed when you make changes to the real device. You can even write to your snapshots.
