FrazierWall Linux is a single floppy distribution Linux firewall that is based on the Linux Router Project. It is designed for use with ethernet base internet connections (such as cable modems or xDSL lines). It allows you to share such a connection with several other computers on a LAN. It is easy to setup and maintain, and is available in a Linux configurable software version.
Firewall is a set of scripts (firewall, fwup, and fwdown) that implement an ipchains firewall and various forms of network address and port translation. All you have to do is read the policy file and edit it to reflect your topology and filtering policy. It supports many different types of network topology (single host, traditional forwarding, masquerading, port forwarding, alias port forwarding and NAT), up to 10 untrusted interfaces each with their own policy, and over 50 network applications. It also supports centralised administration of multiple remote firewalls (meta-firewall).
TrinityOS is a step-by-step, example-driven HOWTO on building a very functional Linux box with strong security in mind. TrinityOS is well known for its strong packet firewall ruleset, Chrooted and Split DNS (v9 and v8), secured Sendmail (8.x), Linux PPTP, Serial consoles and Reverse TELNET, DHCPd, SSHd, UPSes, system performance tuning, the automated TrinityOS-Security implementation scripts, and much more.
SoL (Server optimized Linux) is a Linux distribution completely independent from other Linux distributions. It was built from the original source packages and is optimized for heavy-duty server work. It contains all common server applications, and features XML boot and script technology that makes it easy to configure and make the server work.
The Auditor security collection is a live-system based on KNOPPIX. It provides tools for analyzing the security of a system. It features a menu structure that reflects the stages of a security check: foot-printing, analysis, scanning, wireless, brute-forcing, cracking. In addition to about 300 security tools, the collection includes background information regarding standard configuration and passwords, truly extensive word lists, and more mundane productivity tools.
slakbootIBS (Slackware Interactive Boot Scripts) is an enhanced set of replacement boot scripts for the Slackware Linux distribution. It includes a set of control and dispatch tools for configuring and booting with colorized interactive scripts. The new boot process allows the operator to select or skip start-up components in realtime. It facilitates debugging of startup problems and allows operators to maintain a common baseline to support several local configurations or multiple servers with a single set of scripts.
OpenBSD Live-CD Firewall is an OpenBSD-based pf (packet filter) firewall, with NAT, squid, DNS, and a DHCP server (dnsmasq) for internal clients preconfigured. Settings and log files can be saved to a USB device. Saved settings will be restored at the next reboot. Additional security related software is available on the CD (arpwatch, honeyd, ntop, portsentry, etc.)
