afinger is a configurable finger client, written in Perl. It can be used both together with a finger daemon and from the command line. afinger honours a .nofinger file in home directories, you can set a minimum and maximum UID, use a Fortune program for erroneous requests, and virtually control each part of the returned information.
Beonex Communicator is Mozilla polished for end users. It contains Navigator, Mailnews, Composer, and ChatZilla. Navigator has support for key web standards and a convenient interface. For example, it eases searching the Internet, similar to Apple's Sherlock on Macintosh. The Bookmark Manager can deal with huge collections of bookmarks and allows you to overview and sort them while you are surfing. If you want, you can track the latest headlines or webcams using the Sidebar. The Mailnews client supports multiple IMAP, POP3 and/or news accounts for each user, so you can download and manage all your email from various accounts in one place and store them on your computer or the server. Beonex puts a strong emphasis on security, privacy, and netiquette, to protect the private or confidential information on your computer and to encourage fairness.
This is a much updated version of Mike Shanzer's fingerd-1.3. It is almost completely rewritten, well-debugged (i.e., more secure), and quite configurable. It supports ACLs, a message-of-the-day file, the ability to run programs for given user-IDs, and a full set of command-line options that make it mostly compatible with modern BSD versions. It is portable, uses GNU Autoconf and GNU Automake for builds, and it comes with a ready-to-use BSD makefile too.
PFinger is a highly configurable, secure and portable finger deamon. It is started by inetd but does not run as root. The service may be disabled for individual users by the administrator or by the users themselves. It offers configurable special files (e.g. a users PGP-Key could be retrieved with 'finger john.pgpkey@host), no printing of users home directory or shell and it also provides a graphical frontend that allows users to easily alter the output that will be sent, when they are fingerd.
