The Multivalent PDF Tools is a suite of tools for manipulating PDF documents. It includes tools for compressing, uncompressing (for hand editing), obtaining metadata, splitting and merging, encrypting and decrypting, validating, imposition (aka n-up), making page images, extracting text, and full-text indexing (with Lucene). The compress tool shrinks the PDF 1.5 Reference from 13.5MB to 8MB in PDF 1.5/Acrobat 6 format and down to 5.1MB in a new proposed "Compact" format.
Parallel File Scanner is a multithreaded parallel file scanner that combines the functionality of find, xargs, and fgrep. It has the potential of being faster than find+xargs+fgrep on systems with multiple CPUs, multiple disks, and a good file system that supports parallel operations.
SATFORM is a forms processor which provides a facility to print word processor-quality letters/reports by merging a data source with a template form. The output is suitable for HP LaserJet III (PCL) or later compatible printers. SATFORM uses an HTML-style markup system (SAT/ML) to define document template forms. It is also possible to make use of SAT/ML formatting to process embedded SAT/ML tags using the companion SATFILTER utility.
Webtop is a Web-based POP3 email client that includes SSL encryption, Mozilla support, many email filter options, spam fighting features, custom folders, email import/export, fast searching, undeliverable email bounce, intelligent read receipts, and email-to-PDF generation. The Webtop also includes a calendar, notepad, online file storage, automated email reminders, contacts, mailing lists, and Web-based administration. One installation can support multiple users and each user can set up as many POP3 accounts as they need.
cats2procmailrc is a filter to generate a .procmailrc file from a much terser and friendlier file consisting mostly of single-line rules. These suffice to do the most common mail filing, making maintenance of a procmailrc very easy for someone with more than a few filing rules. Each rule normally names the folder, an optional subject tag, and the pattern. Raw procmail rules may also be included for those rare complex filings.
info2man converts GNU info files to pod or -man formats. GNU info can be a pain as it demands its own special pager, it's a binary format, it's cruder than HTML and less documented, and most GNU- authored manual entries basically say "we like info so we don't maintain this manual entry, thus it is probably wrong". info2man thus converts info files so that they can be read by ordinary tools.
logsurfer is a log checking/auditing tool similar to swatch and logcheck but with the capability of handling multi-line messages and dynamically adapting the ruleset. It is written in portable C, well documented, fast, and flexible. It works on any textfile or stdin, can be run at intervals or continuously, and has timeouts and resource limits.
polcnv is designed to convert files between different encoding methods used for Polish texts. It can be also used to covert plain text documents in any language using supported character encoding methods. The program uses ISO-10646 UCS-4 (equivalent to Unicode UTF-32) as internal representation.
reversible hexdump is a hexdump/hex2bin-toolkit that dumps to a special readable and reversible hexadecimal byte-dump, where you can not only change bytes, but also insert or delete bytes. It has a flush-switch, where it will output hexbytes for each single char it reads. This is especially useful (imho) for watching output from slow devices (e.g., serial devices like mice). The hex2bin-utility (the reverse-hexdump) not only accepts hexbytes for input, but also double-quoted strings with most of the escape-chars known from C and makes good attempts at undumping even hexdumps with repetition-lines (a "*" on its own line). It's written in ANSI C.
