Embedded File System (EFS) is a C++ library that allows you to create virtual file system in a single file. It can be useful when you need to create really big number of small files, as it is still fast even when you have millions of files. An encryption layer could be easily added for security.
File exchange Protocol can be used to store and retrieve files in a remote repository server using HTTP. It can access a remote server using HTTP requests with authentication to protect the access to the remote files. The class can perform requests to create, write, read, and delete remote files. It can also create, list, and delete directories. It implements a stream wrapper interface to make it possible to access the remote files with PHP functions like fopen('fep://...') and other PHP file and directory manipulation functions. You can also apply a Stream Wrapper that allows you to mount a remote filesystem.
iloog is a Gentoo-based live CD targeted mainly at students and scientists. It features UnionFS filesystem support that enables you to write everywhere on the LiveCD and install extra packages, a graphical X environment through the Fluxbox window manager, many programming editors and IDEs, and a plethora of scientific applications, including Octave, Namd, Merlin, and full (La)TeX support.
The Zumastor Linux storage project adds enterprise storage features to Linux, primarily improved snapshots and remote replication. Point-in-time, near zero-cost, block level snapshots can be added to any existing filesystem and performance does not degrade with multiple snapshots. Remote replication is achieved by sending minimal block level deltas between snapshots without having to traverse the entire filesystem like rsync does.
Duplicate Files Searcher is an application for finding and deleting duplicate files on your computer. It can also be used to calculate MD5 and SHA hashes. It has features such as manual files selection (giving the user full control over files to be deleted), byte for byte file comparison, file preview, several file comparison methods, and more.
FreeOTFE4PDA is an "on-the-fly" (OTFE) transparent disk encryption program. Using this software, you can create one or more "virtual memory cards" on your PDA. Anything written to one of these cards will be automatically and securely encrypted before being stored. A PC version is also available, allowing data encrypted on your PC to be read/written on your PDA, and vice-versa.
synDirectory is used to retrieve and sort the current work directory list of of files. It opens the current directory and retrieves the list of files and sub-directories into separate arrays. Since it may be listing the directory where this package was installed, the package files are excluded from the listing. The arrays with the files and directories may be sorted by name, file size, file type, or last modified date. The package comes with a configuration file to help the user customize the output further. It is also possible to skin the output via CSS.
Simple TCP File System is a FUSE (Filesystem in Userspace) based networked file system. It consists of 2 parts: a network server daemon that is started on the (remote) host, and a FUSE module running in user-space on the local host. The server component is launched via SSH, and after the client and server have communicated and created a separate TCP connection for data transfer, the SSH link is shut down.
