loggerfs is a FUSE-based virtual file system that automatically parses log files and sends that information to a MySQL or PostgreSQL database. Existing log parsers usually run periodically and scan the entire file for changes. loggerfs takes a different approach by providing a virtual file system. Whenever data is appended to a virtual file by the logging daemon, the information is directly stored in the database. There is no need to poll the file and monitor for changes.
Virt-df is a df implementation for virtual guests. The program is meant to be run on the host or dom0 to display disk space used and available on all partitions within all guests. There is no need to run any software or agent inside the guests. It is compatible with most Linux and Windows guests.
Yin Yang is a real-time Linux file scanner that is activated whenever a file is accessed. When a file opening system call is detected, it will send the full pathname of the file to a network daemon. The network daemon will then pass the pathname of the file to a file scanner, such as an anti-virus scanner, and return the status. The status will then be reported back to the network daemon, and the response will be passed back to the system call. The default action logs a message to the system logger. The file scanner is wrapped with the original file opening system call, so it will open the file normally after the file scanning.
FSHeal aims to be a general filesystem tool that can scan and report vital "defective" information about the filesystem like broken symlinks, forgotten backup files, and left-over object files, but also source files, documentation files, user documents, and so on. It will scan the filesystem without modifying anything and reporting all the data to a logfile specified by the user which can then be reviewed and actions taken accordingly.
