pftp allows you to send and receive files and directories recursively, send and receive standard input and ouput, filter your connection, set the net buffer size, set the bandwidth, send UDP datagrams unicasted, broadcasted, and multicasted (which is meant for AUDIO and VIDEO streaming), send data to another user and manage that data, perform a network test based on either UDP or TCP, and use optimized buffers for your Gigabit Ethernet links. pftp can start from command line, as a daemon, or by inetd. All features are supported for IPv4 and IPv6.

AbulÉdu is a Ubuntu-based distribution for primary schools. It is currently in French but most of the tools can be translated. An AbulÉdu server can handle Mac, Windows (samba), GNU/Linux and X terminal (with LTSP) clients. The server acts as a central gateway for Web, mail, and printing, and facilitates the management of classes, pupils, and teachers. Everybody can publish Web pages on an intranet using Apache and all administration tasks are performed using a browser. The result is that a teacher who is not a computer specialist can install and manage a school network.
Chindi is a file transfer server/client package written in Java with functionality similar to that of an FTP server. The goal is to create an old-school BBS-system combined with a FTP server. All transfers are encrypted using a fast stream cipher combined with RSA encryption for the transfer of the keys.
