Aftpd is an FTP server for anonymous access designed for Unix-like operating systems. It uses an asynchronous model of connection processing and provides service for all users within a single process; can use multiple threads to run more efficiently on multi-core systems, with each thread serving multiple clients simultaneously; uses effective mechanisms of transferring files, minimizing copying of data in RAM (sendfile or a combination of the system calls mmap/writev); uses effective event notification schemes (kqueue on FreeBSD and epoll on Linux); uses poll or select in older systems; and supports IPv6. For safety, it works as an unprivileged user and uses chroot.
OSSEC For PfSense is a module that allows the execution of OSSEC HIDS on the PfSense platform, in order to improve the security of your network. It enables better diagnosis and anticipation of possible attacks on servers. As the OSSEC is based on analysis of logs, its accuracy in detecting potential attackers makes it one of the best tools for intrusion detection. It can also read the logs generated by the Snort package, which can easily be added to PfSense.
DeaDBeeF is an audio player for GNU/Linux and other UNIX-like systems. It is written in C with some plugins in C++. It has minimal dependencies, a native GTK2 GUI, cuesheet support, support for MP3, Ogg, FLAC, and APE, chiptune formats with subtunes, song-length databases, and more. It is very fast and lightweight, and extensible using plugins (DSP, GUI, output, input, etc.). The GUI looks similar to Foobar2000.
RemoteBox is a graphical tool which lets you administer guests or virtual machines running under VirtualBox on a remote server or even your local machine if desired. You may, for example, have a root server on the Internet, a server at home, or a server at work running VirtualBox but want to have the convenience of managing the guests easily from your local machine. The virtual machines run in headless mode, which means you don't need an active graphical display on the server but you can still connect and view the displays of the guests. The goal of RemoteBox is to provide a GUI that should be familiar to VirtualBox users while allowing them to administer a remote installation of VirtualBox. It does this via the VirtualBox API and SOAP interface, which are exposed when running the VirtualBox Web service. You can also use RemoteBox simply as an alternative interface for managing VirtualBox on your local machine.
MoCo is a system that monitors and controls SCADA points, such as temperature, HVAC, power, lighting, sprinkler systems, and more. It has industrial capabilities, but is scalable from very small home systems to enterprise, world-wide ones. It works with inexpensive I/O bridges (including X10, Insteon, and 1-wire) from a number of manufacturers. It has sophisticated history logging and diverse control capabilities, as well as a 117-page implementation manual.
FreeDiams is a program for making prescriptions of pharmaceutical drugs and testing their interactions. It is the result of building the FreeMedForms prescriber plugins into a standalone application. It is developed by medical doctors and is intended for use by these same professionals. It can be used to prescribe drugs and test drug interactions within a prescription. It can be linked to any application by way of its command line parameters. FreeDiams can use several drug databases, including the FDA_USA drug database, the French AFSSAPS drug database, the Canadian drug databases, and the South African drug database (SAEPI).
