Lynkeos processes astronomical webcam images. By stacking the best images, the signal to noise ratio is increased, and details lost in the noise of individual images become visible in the resulting image. This software accepts, as input, QuickTime sequences or still images, in any image format supported by its active plugins and Cocoa. It generates a 16-bit RGB TIFF image as output, to be further processed with some all-purpose image processing application.
Max is an application for creating high-quality audio files in various formats from CDs or files. When extracting audio from CDs, it uses cdparanoia. Once the audio is extracted, it can generate audio in over 20 compressed and uncompressed formats including MP3, Ogg Vorbis, FLAC, AAC, Apple Lossless, Speex, AIFF, and WAVE. It can also convert from one format to another. For many popular formats the artist and album metadata is transferred seamlessly between the old and new files. Max is integrated with FreeDB to permit automatic retrieval of CD information. For MP3, FLAC, Ogg FLAC, Ogg Vorbis, AAC, and Apple Lossless files, it will write this metadata to the output.
Tag is a metadata editor for FLAC, Ogg Vorbis, Monkey's Audio, and WavPack files. Tag has an intuitive interface that simplifies common editing tasks while also allowing direct manipulation of tags. Tags can be dragged between files, or Tag can add all the tags contained in one file to another in one fell swoop. For files with incomplete or missing metadata, it can guess tag values by matching the filename to a user-defined pattern. It can rename files by substituting tag values into a user-defined pattern. It can edit multiple files simultaneously, eliminating repetition and saving time. It features customizable mappings that allow you to specify which tags are mapped to the various fields in the user interface.
TwistedWave is a very easy-to-use and powerful audio editor. It supports Audio Unit plug-ins and many file formats, including wav, aiff, caf, mp3, mp4, FLAC, and Ogg Vorbis. It has good multichannel support, so you can apply Audio Units to a selection of channels. It supports unlimited undo and redo, which work instantly. Zooming in and moving around the waveform is very fast, even with very large files. All the effects are applied in the background, saving a lot of time.
skiTunes is a fast, extensible alternative to iTunes. It can use Apple Quicktime, VLC, MPlayer, LAME, and cdrecord. It differs from Apple's offering in that it is written in Cocoa and uses native widgets, as well as supporting formats iTunes doesn't, such as OGG and WMA. Using native widgets will allow it to automatically match the rest of the OS when a theme is applied, unlike iTunes, which requires hacking in order to make it match. It will also offer a skinnable "mini- mode".
