LifeV is a finite element (FE) library providing implementations of state of the art mathematical and numerical methods. It serves both as a research and production library. It has already been used in medical and industrial contexts to simulate fluid structure interaction and mass transport. LifeV is the joint collaboration between four institutions: École Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne (CMCS) in Switzerland, Politecnico di Milano (MOX) in Italy, INRIA (REO, ESTIME) in France, and Emory University (Sc. Comp) in the U.S.A.
OraRep is a PL/SQL snippet (embedded in a shell script) which creates a well-formatted HTML report on a given database instance, providing you with an overview on your instance(s), some hints for performance tuning, and more. It has been tested with Oracle 8.1.7, 9.0.1, and 9.2. The script easily fits into a cron task to be run on a regular basis. Sample output (HTML) is included. OSPRep does the same job for Oracle StatsPack Reports based on SnapShot Levels up to 7, and provides additional "plugins" for more detailed reporting on special issues. It also optionally creates a separate page with charts to visualize the results and more.

OpenSMART is a monitoring (and reporting) environment for servers and applications in a network. Its main features are a nice Web front end, monitored servers requiring only a Perl installation, XML configuration, and good documentation. It is easy to write more checks. Supported platforms are Linux, HP/UX, Solaris, AIX, *BSD, and Windows (only as a client).

Ingres supports many programming languages, including Python, Ruby, Java, Perl, C/C++, and more. Ingres has a bit of a learning curve, but once mastered is extremely powerful and highly tunable. It is also very stable and reliable. Ingres is one of a fairly small number of databases providing excellent geospatial features including data types and functions compliant with the Open Geospatial Consortium (OGC) Simple Feature Specification (SFS) for SQL.
