GCompris is an educational software suite with numerous activities for children aged 2 to 10. Some of the activities are game-orientated, but nonetheless still educational. These include computer discovery (keyboard, mouse, different mouse gestures), algebra (table memory, enumeration, double entry table, mirror image), science (the canal lock, the water cycle, the submarine, electric simulation), geography (place the country on the map), games (chess, memory, connect 4, oware, sudoku), reading practice, and others (learn to tell time, puzzles of famous paintings, vector drawing, cartoon making, etc.). It currently offers in excess of 100 activities, and more are being developed.
Sutekh is a card collection manager for the game called "Vampire: the Eternal Struggle" (VtES). Card information is stored in an SQL database backend. Current functionality includes parsing information from the official VtES card list and rulings files, exporting of decks to HTML and ARDB XML files, flexible filtering of lists of cards, backing up and restoring of the card database, configurable selection of which card information is displayed, and basic deck analysis.
Step Into Chinese is a flexible language-mining tool to assist English speakers seeking to understand the Chinese language. Inside is an extensively cross-referenced data structure which allows the user to pursue deeper understanding of contexts, for example, by "locking on" to a particular Pinyin context and viewing successive instances of the same morpheme used in similar contexts.
FIFE is a cross-platform 2.5D game creation framework written in C++ and Python. Games can be created with a combination of engine, editor tools, game specific scripts, and game content (e.g. maps, graphics, and sounds). The framework is not tied to any type of game (e.g. RTS, RPG), but instead provides a flexible platform for all of them. It supports different isometric views and a pure top-down view. Instead of full 3D flexibility, the engine focuses mainly on using high quality 2D graphics. This puts fewer demands on target platforms and also simplifies the framework and game development.
Brain Workshop is an implementation of the Dual N-Back mental exercise. This exercise is a mental activity that has been scientifically shown to improve your working memory (short-term memory) and fluid intelligence. The game involves remembering a sequence of spoken letters and a sequence of positions of a square at the same time. Brain Workshop includes additional challenging game modes beyond Dual N-Back.
