Tiki can be used to create all kinds of Web applications, sites, portals, knowledge bases, intranets, and extranets. Tiki offers a very large number of features "out-of-the-box". It is highly configurable and modular. All features are optional and administered via a Web-based interface. Major features include a robust wiki engine, news articles, discussion forums, newsletters, blogs, file and image galleries, bug and issue trackers, a link directory, polls/surveys and quizzes, FAQs, a banner management system, calendar, maps, mobile access, RSS feeds, a category system, tags, an advanced themeing engine (Smarty), spreadsheet, live support, shoutbox, inter-user messaging, menu generator, advanced permission system for users and groups, internal search engine, external authentication support, and more. It was formerly named TikiWiki.

It is integrated with a WYSIWYG word processor for the authoring of publication-ready articles automatically formatted to chosen citation styles. The system includes support for migrating to and from BibTeX and Endnote.

It does more than an admin tool or file manager by considering table relations as a cohesive whole that drives the generation of a complete application that smoothly integrates your entire database design, complete with PDF reports. It is open, compact, efficient, and compatible with the tools and technologies you’re using now.
Mediabird allows students to document and review their study effort using a collaborative notepad. The Web2.0 application allows for taking notes on a personal notepad. A virtual text marker allows the students to highlight their notes and ask questions about the highlighted parts. The sharing feature allows study groups to share and discuss their notes as well as questions they have created. By-and-by, the students collect answers to the questions. Pairs of questions and answers are collected in a card box that allows for memorizing the important facts later on (e.g. for an exam or presentation). The program is also available as a Moodle activity.

For example, it includes converters for dBm-to-Watt and Fahrenheit-to-Celsius, and it can calculate Ohm's law, filters, thermal resistant C/W, SWR, coil inductance, capacitor capacity, and more.
Emilda is an Integrated Library System that features an OPAC, circulation and administration functions, Z39.50 capabilities, and 100% MARC compatibility. MARC compatibility is achieved using the Zebra server from Indexdata in conjunction with MySQL. Emilda is mainly written in PHP, but Perl scripts exist for MARC manipulation and shell interaction.
FreeSMS (Free Student Management System) is a Web application for managing an educational facility. It manages teachers and students and provides marketing, registration, course management, attendance, and a student evaluation system, and manages courses within a class environment. Profile-based management is supported for administrators, teachers, and students. Teachers and students can be registered online. Students are allowed to manage their own class enrolment and submit course evaluations, and teachers can manage student attendance. The differential factor and elegance of this project lie in the OOP standard and a modular structure. The code is clean and very extendable.
