Elm Millennium Edition is a text-based mail client. There are two branches: Elm 2.4ME+, which is based on Elm 2.4, and Elm ME+ 2.5, which also incorporates some code from Elm 2.5. Elm Millennium Edition contains enhanced MIME and character set support. A subset of UTF-8 (Unicode) is handled. It can read mail from a local mbox and POP and IMAP folders and can pass mail to the PGP or GPG programs. It can also view digests as a mailbox and reassemble fragmented (message/partial) messages. It includes modules for TLS/SSL, iconv, and SMTP.
The POP and IMAP troubleshooter serves to diagnose and solve connection problems from client machines to email services. It reads the client configuration files (Outlook, Windows Mail, Thunderbird, etc.), checks the individual settings, and then attempts to create POP, IMAP, and SMTP connections using these settings. The troubleshooter is coded in C++ using the Qt environment. It can be used generically, or can be customized for the demands of a particular email service.
Mutt Folder List is a mutt patch that adds a sidebar showing all mail folders and the total and number of new messages each contains. It allows users to hide or display the sidebar with a single keystroke, and optionally highlights folders with new messages. Users can scroll up and down the list of folders and open the selected folder, and configure the sidebar width, colors, and key bindings.
mu is a collection of utilities for maildirs, in particular for indexing and searching them. mu fills a database with information about your emails, which can then be queried using an easy query language. It can work stand-alone or be integrated with a mail client. It also provides an emacs-based email client ("mu4e") and bindings for Guile/Scheme.
Heirloom mailx (formerly known as "nail") is derived from Berkeley Mail and provides the functionality of the System V and POSIX mailx commands. Additional features include support for MIME, IMAP (including caching and disconnected use), POP3, SMTP, S/MIME, international character sets, maildir folders, message threading, powerful search methods, scoring, and a Bayesian junk mail filter. Mailx can be used as a mail batch language in nearly the same way as it is used interactively. It can thus act as a mailbox filter, can fetch mail from remote accounts, and can send files as attachments.
OfflineIMAP is a tool to simplify email reading. It allows you to read the same mailbox from multiple computers and ensures that your changes will be automatically reflected on all computers. You can use various mail clients to read a single box or read mail while offline with full synchronization when you reconnect. You can read IMAP mail with readers that lack IMAP support (same goes for SSL). OfflineIMAP's multithreaded synchronization algorithm performs between 10 and 60 times faster than many mail readers' internal IMAP support, and it can be used even with mail readers that support IMAP already. There are five available user interface modules, including scripted execution, an interactive terminal interface, and GUI interfaces.
