Python Mesh Viewer is a very basic tool to display and play with 3D models. You can either construct them in the code (by defining points, triangles, and quads) or load them from a file. Currently, the only file format supported is the ".mesh" format from the closed source software medit. The rendering is done with absolutely no hardware acceleration (no OpenGL).

BrickIt provides a portable Web-based registry that helps synthetic biologists to plan and organize the construction of Biobricks. Biobricks are standardized fragments of DNA (genes, switches, and more complex functional modules) that are openly and freely shared across the community of synthetic biologists (see biobricks.org. Brickit implements a database-backed Django Web server to coordinate and track the biobrick samples within a lab, institute, or local community.

The Chemical Structures project aims to provide a complete set of 3D molecular structures in CML format. As CML format permits structural data and many properties to be included, each file also contains additional information, like molecular weight, boiling point, melting point, or InChI code. Data can be explored with a CML-aware software, like Jmol, or by using a Web browser.

RWTH Mindstorms NXT Toolbox controls LEGO Mindstorms NXT robots with MATLAB via a wireless Bluetooth connection. The toolbox functions are based on the LEGO Mindstorms NXT Bluetooth Communication Protocol to control the intelligent NXT Brick via a wireless Bluetooth connection. Although a Bluetooth connection is not recommended for realtime robot control in general, because of its high latency, this toolbox provides MATLAB functions to interact with a robot directly. The main advantage of this remote control concept is that it enables users to combine robot applications with complex mathematical operations and visualizations within MATLAB.

Raggier is a plugin-based raytracer that supports XML format scenefiles, POV-Ray, and Polyray scenefiles. Other facilities planned include Lindermayer Systems (L-Systems), AVI/OGM (Ogg Vorbis)/Matroska animations, and a Perl/PHP Web interface. Raggier uses the Libtrace library, modified with various fixes to get it to compile using gcc 3.x and to improve the results. The modified version is called LibTraceMod and is available in the CVS.

Amiba is a Gene Expression Programming (GEP) framework for Java. GEP is, like genetic algorithms, a branch of evolutionary computing. The framework separates the process of evolution from the process of interpretation of the chromosome, allowing the use of various schemes. For example, graphs may be used as terminals and graph operations as operators in the chromosome instead of the usual double precision numbers. It implements mutation, transposition, and recombination. Options and rates are easily configured through an XML file. A mechanism to load fitness cases in bulk is also provided.
