Spotter is software that can check students' answers to symbolic and numerical problems in math and science. It recognizes an answer regardless of the form it's in, and the instructor can put in helpful hints as responses to frequently-occurring mistakes. Symbolic answers can be input in a notation closely resembling normal human math notation (e.g., xy rather than x*y, and sin x instead of sin(x)). Spotter runs as a Perl CGI application on a Web server; the student doesn't need to install any software.
The massXpert software package is a mass spectrometry environment for linear (bio-)polymers. It inherits all the innovations of GNU polyxmass. It allows the detailed definition of new polymer chemistries in the XpertDef module. These chemistry definitions are then used in the desktop calculator-like mass calculator (XpertCalc) and in the sophisticated polymer sequence editor and (bio-)chemical/mass spectrometric simulations module (XpertEdit). Available simulations include polymer and monomer chemical modifications, polymer sequence cleavage, gas-phase fragmentation, m/z ratio calculations, and more.
Klen-library is a program for creating electronic books. It consists of three modules, for editing books, reading books, and creating tests. It offers password protection of every book and the editing mode. The print function makes it self-sufficient, as it allows creation of books without using third-party text editors. It uses SQLite, so you don't have to install a database server. It can export to the XWB, HTML, TXT, PDF, PostScript, and RTF formats, and can import from XWB, HTML, and TXT.
Shelk-test is a program for creating tests for students. Tests take up just three modules: creation, testing, and reporting. Shelk-test can insert images into all types of questions, making it possible to create a question such as "What is shown in the picture?" All tests are stored centrally in a SQLite database, increasing reliability and allowing you to have a database file without having to install a database server.
Fresh Memory is an application that helps you to learn large amounts of any material with Spaced Repetition method. The most important subject is learning foreign words, but Fresh Memory can also e used to learn anything else. Other examples are country's capitals and flags, chemical elements, mathematical formulas, and technical terms. The learning data is stored as flash cards and dictionaries: sets of cards. The flash cards may have several fields, and the user controls what combination of fields to learn. The flash cards can have formatted text and images. FLENS is short for Flexible Library for Efficient Numerical Solutions. This C++ can be used as a builing block for the implementation of other (higher-level) numerical libraries or numerical applications. It is a C++ library (requires a C++11 conform compiler). Easy install, as FLENS is headers only. It gives you Matrix/vector types for dense linear algebra; a generic (i.e. templated) implementation of BLAS; and a generic reimplementation of LAPACK. If high performance BLAS libraries like ATLAS, GotoBLAS, etc. are available, you simply can link against them and boost performance.
Hanzim ("Hanzi Master") is an interactive visual dictionary for learning and seeing relationships between Chinese radicals, characters, and compounds. All the characters with a given radical, phonetic component, or pronunciation can be displayed, and all words containing a character, with English meanings. All data is stored locally. Either simplified or traditional characters can be used.
