Xplanets is a simulator that shows a spaceship moving through the solar system. The spaceship's movements are influenced by gravity from the sun and the planets according to Newton's laws, and by the acceleration that the engines provide. The planets move around is (simplified) round orbits.
Xpovchem is a molecule viewer based on the PovRay raytracer. It takes a molecule description, converts it into a .pov file, and lets povray render the image -- thus allowing a very high rendering quality. Xpovchem includes the professional Babel molecule format converter and is a GUI frontend to Paul Thiessen's povchem console program. The package contains many samples of common mineral and organic molecules.
xremote is a simple tool that lets you grab the mouse and keyboard of another machine and control them with your local mouse and keyboard. It creates a form of remote control of other machines. All mouse- and keyboard-actions on the local machine are forwarded to the remote display.
Xstereograph is a modeller for 3D single image stereograms (SIS). It uses Fabian Januszewski's stereograph renderer to actually produce the stereograms, and includes a powerful GUI and an internal modeller capable of building polyhedra and 3D bodies such as ellipsoids, tori, trefoil knots, etc. There are many samples and examples in the package.
Yacas is a general purpose, easy to use Computer Algebra System (a CAS is a program that can be used to do symbolic manipulation of mathematical expressions). It is built on top of its own programming language designed for this purpose, in which new algorithms can easily be implemented. In addition, it comes with extensive documentation on the functionality implemented and methods used to implement them.
SAGU, which is a portuguese acronym for "Sistema Aberto de Gestão Unificada", was originaly designed to automate all of what that happens between a student and their Educational Institution. GnomeRSVP is a "Rapid Serial Visual Projector" similar to products like AceReader. In this dynamic representation of text, each word is flashed on the screen one at a time in succession. The reader is less inclined to "oralize" the text, rather the reader interprets whole words as meaningful written symbols. Automatic re-reading of adjacent previous text is therefore rendered impossible. This results in much higher reading speeds than are possible with standard techniques.
SLIS is a TCP/IP gateway for schools. It provides advanced functions to students and teachers, such as a filtering proxy/cache, email addresses, access control, Web replication, Web mirroring, an intranet Web server with PHP and PostgreSQL, user management, DHCP, remote monitoring of a global set of SLIS servers, live update, etc. All of this is provided by an easy-to-use Web interface. All of the project is in French, but work is in progress to make it international.
