dnspython is a DNS toolkit for Python. It supports almost all of the record types. It can be used for queries, zone transfers, and dynamic updates. It supports TSIG authenticated messages and EDNS0. dnspython provides both high and low level access to DNS. The high level classes perform queries for data of a given name, type, and class, and return an answer set. The low level classes allow direct manipulation of DNS zones, messages, names, and records.
DNS Flood Detector was developed to detect abusive usage levels on high traffic nameservers and to enable quick response in halting (among other things) the use of one's nameserver to facilitate spam. DNS Flood Detector uses libpcap (in non-promiscuous mode) to monitor incoming dns queries to a nameserver. The tool may be run in one of two modes, either daemon mode or "bindsnap" mode. In daemon mode, the tool will alarm via syslog. In bindsnap mode, the user is able to get near-real-time stats on usage to aid in more detailed troubleshooting.
Chaosmap is an information gathering tool and DNS, Whois, and Web server scanner. It can be used to look up DNS names with a dictionary with or without using a salt. Salting for DNS means it will append numbers from 1-9 to the name in the dictionary with or without a - and _ or a leading 0. Salting for Web stuff will try double slashes and some directory traversal tricks. It performs reverse DNS lookups of a whole IP range (with optional Whois lookup) and dictionary scans for hidden paths on one Web server or a range of IP addresses. Optionally you can encode a path with URL encoding use Google dict lookup mode to find the path on Google and only query the Webserver if there are no search results. It can also extract email addresses from domains using a Google search or perform a list of Google Hacking queries on your domain.
Simple Dynamic DNS is a very light and simple set of Perl scripts to provide DNS support for users with dynamic IPs. The server is a CGI which waits for a client connection, then authenticates and changes the user IP. The cron script will check every N minutes for changes in the zones specified in the config files, and if any, it rebuilds the Bind zone from the latests updated IPs.
Binder is a program that provides a Web-based control panel to Bind 9. It is for small ISPs, small hosting companies, and individuals that host domains and want to provide their customers with an easy to use, simple interface to their records, without having to give up control of their nameservers.
