KutttPech is a MPEG-player in Java, capable of playing MPEG-1 within your browser without downloading any irritating plug-in. It is specialized in handling live MPEG streams, but can play files just as easely. It plays Layer 2 audio on most browsers with java 1.1/1.2 and on all browsers with 1.3. It can cut P-FRAMES and B-FRAMES if the machine is too slow to handle them, so as to maintain a small lag. It can run outside a browser as an application and is reasonably fast.
VACUM is framework for video analysis and comparison. It provides flexible input handling, an image processing library, and tools for objective and visual measurement of the video quality. It includes a video player that can play multiple video files side-by-side, compare video frames and generate "visual diff", display PSNR values, and single step through the frames.
The bILDA project consists of a specialized open source D/A converter hardware and control software, which make it possible to control entertainment laser show projectors using Linux. Full hardware plans are provided. On the software side the device firmware and a Linux kernel module are available. A small application to play laser show animations in *.ild file format is also included.
