MediaFrame is a streaming media platform that provides a fast, easy to implement, and extremely small applet that allows over 97% of Web users to view your audio and video content without having to rely on external player applications or bulky plug-ins. It does not require special servers, software, or programming knowledge, is based on open standards, and is compatible with MPEG-1 and MPEG-4, the industry standard in video compression. It support content created in any number of applications, from Adobe AfterEffects to Media Cleaner.
Apple's QuickTime multimedia architecture has some features that can be exploited through server-side scripting and HTML embedding, but it's something of a black art. There is confusion and inconsistency in how best to embed QuickTime in Web pages, deal with QTVR, let movies talk to each other, pass XML QTLists back and forth between movies and servers, and much more. PEAR::QuickTime hopes to expose this in a clean and elegant way so that QuickTime can reach the audience it deserves. It aims to provide a simple and consistent interface to these features through a set of PEAR-compatible PHP classes and functions.
The Video Performance Evaluation Resource (ViPER) is a toolkit of Java programs and scripts that enables evaluation of video processing algorithms. This includes a markup tool for video, a performance evaluation tool that compares how well result data matches ground truth video metadata, and scripts and systems for running sets of experiments.
Sonic-Rainbow is a Linux GUI multimedia player. It plays DVDs, VCDs, and video files. It plays CDs, rips CDs to Ogg, MP3, FLAC, and WAV files, and has an Ogg, MP3, FLAC and WAV player, as well as a playlist editor and a TAG editor to create and modify MP3, Ogg, and FLAC file tags. HTTP is used to download and locally store CD Info from Freedb such that the CD player, ripper, Ogg player, FLAC Player, and MP3 player are able to display CD track and artist information. The GUI playlist editor creates playlists containing single Ogg, FLAC, or MP3 files and directories of Ogg, FLAC, or MP3 files. It provides support for FM radio cards if installed.
StreamTuned is a stream player and recorder. It plays and records audio and video streams using Mplayer as a backend. It can parse stream URLs and related information from playlists, Web pages, or XML/RSS feeds. It can act as a Podcast client, and allows for local and remote (Web service) access to the repositories containing your stream URLs. It is the basis for MythStream, an unofficial MythTV plugin.
