ChangeBlindness is a small game that demonstrates the change blindness phenomenon. The effect shows that our brains have a low-level (i.e. subconscious) change detection capability that can be disabled pretty easily (for instance, with a flicker of around 100ms). The game illustrates this using an increasing number of icons, one of which will change during a flicker. The goal of the game is to find the changing icon as quickly as possible.
The National Space Science Data Center's (NSSDC) Common Data Format (CDF) is a self-describing data abstraction for the storage and manipulation of multidimensional data in a platform- and discipline-independent fashion. It consists of a scientific data management package (known as the "CDF Library") that allows programmers and application developers to manage and manipulate scalar, vector, and multi-dimensional data arrays.
Jif (Java + information flow) is a security-typed programming language that extends Java with support for information flow control and access control, both at compile time and at run time. Static information flow control can protect the confidentiality and integrity of information manipulated by computing systems. The compiler tracks the correspondence between information the policies that restrict its use, enforcing security properties end-to-end within the system. After checking information flow within Jif programs, the Jif compiler translates them to Java programs and uses an ordinary Java compiler to produce secure executable programs.
PDFTextStream is a PDF text and metadata extraction library available for Java and .NET. It supports all versions of the PDF document specification (including v1.7, used by Acrobat 8, 9, and X), extraction of text encoded using double-byte character sets (including Chinese, Japanese, and Korean), decryption of documents encrypted using 40-bit, 128-bit, 256-bit, and variable bit length ciphers, and extraction of all document metadata provided by PDF documents (including form data, bookmarks, and annotations). Easy integration with Jakarta Lucene is included, as well as interactive form update capability.
Parallel Performance Wizard (PPW) is a performance analysis tool designed for UPC, MPI, and SHMEM programs. It features an easy-to-use interface and tight integration with GAS programming models via the GASP interface. It is known to work on many platforms. This project is part of a study of existing and emerging performance analysis theory and tools, current and future HPC architectures, and usability and user productivity preferences and methods, along with various programming models.
Polyglot is a highly extensible compiler front end for the Java programming language. Using Polyglot, language extensions can be implemented without duplicating code from the framework itself. Polyglot has been used to implement domain-specific languages, to explore language design ideas, to simplify Java for pedagogical purposes, and for various code transformations such as optimization and fault injection. Polyglot has been used for both major and minor language extensions.
