Off-the-Record (OTR) Messaging is a gaim plugin which allows you to have private conversations over the instant messaging system of your choice. It provides encryption, which prevents someone who intercepts your instant messages from reading them; authentication, which ensures that the correspondent is who you think it is; and perfect forward secrecy, which ensures that no previous conversation is compromised if you lose control of your private keys.
Steghide is a steganography program that is able to hide data in various kinds of image and audio files. The color-frequencies (for image files) or sample-frequencies (for audio files) are not changed, thus making the embedding resistant against first-order statistical tests. Features of steghide include compression and encryption of embedded data, embedding of a checksum to verify the integrity of the extracted data, and support for JPEG, BMP, WAV, and AU files.
The OpenAI site is centered around an Open Source project and community involving artificial intelligence. The project itself is the creation of a set of tools that are considered to be models of human intelligence or biomimicry. These tools are intended to be integrated into applications or used stand alone for research.
Tin Hat is a Linux distribution derived from hardened Gentoo. It aims to provide a very secure, stable, and fast desktop environment that lives purely in RAM. Tin Hat boots from CD, or optionally USB pen drive, but it is not a LiveCD in that it does not mount any file system from the boot device. Rather, Tin Hat employs a massive squashfs image which expands into tmpfs upon booting. This makes for long boot times, but remarkable speeds during human-computer interaction.
The modular syslog allows for an easy implementation of input and output modules. The modules that mantain compatibility with its precursor are included in the standard distribution along with four modules: om_peo (an implementation of PEO-1 and L-PEO, two algorithmic protocols for integrity checking), om_mysql and om_pgsql (modules that sends output to a mysql and postgresql database, respectively) and om_regex (a module that allows output redirection using regular expressions).
Email sends email to remote SMTP servers via the command line, which makes it useful in cron jobs. It will send to any RFC standard remote ESMTP server, is TLS/SSL enabled, and will allow you to encrypt, sign, and design your message on the fly. It has the capability to use signature files with dynamic options, address book functionality, and users can also attach pictures, binary files, documents, or whatever they want. It is completely compatible with GNUPG for encryption and signing, and is easy to configure and use.
Moneychanger is a GUI built on top of Open Transactions, a financial crypto library. Moneychanger can be used to create pseudonyms, issue currencies, open accounts, withdraw and deposit cash (untraceable digital cash), write and deposit cheques, trade on markets, and much, much more.
Seahorse is a Gnome front end for GnuPG, the GNU Privacy Guard program. It is a tool for secure communications and data storage. Data encryption and digital signature creation can easily be performed through a GUI and Key Management operations can easily be carried out through an intuitive interface.
Zebedee is a simple program to establish an encrypted, compressed tunnel for TCP/IP or UDP data transfer between two systems. This allows traffic such as telnet, FTP, and X to be protected from snooping as well as potentially gaining performance over low-bandwidth networks from compression.
