dvd::rip is a full featured DVD copy program written in Perl. It provides an easy-to-use but feature-rich GTK+ GUI to control almost all aspects of the ripping and transcoding process. It uses the widely known video processing swissknife, transcode, and many other Open Source tools.

burnCDDA is a console frontend to cdrdao, cdrecord, MPlayer, mpg321, oggdec, mppdec, flac, normalize, and mp3_check. It can be used to create audio CDs from an M3U playlist (the playlist format of XMMS and amaroK) or from files inside a directory. It supports MP3, OGG Vorbis, Musepack, FLAC, WMA, M4A, and WAV files, and it might be the easiest way to copy an audio CD.

im2avi is a small program for making AVIs from sequences of images. It makes use of avifile for encoding video streams, so im2avi has access to all the codecs that avifile supports, including DivX ;) or Cinepak. It uses the ImageMagick++ library to load the images, so it supports a wide range of formats.

Vobcopy copies DVD .vob files to hard disk (thanks to libdvdread), decrypting them on the way (if libdvdcss is installed) and merges them into 2 GB files (or larger) with the name extracted from the DVD. It checks for enough free space on the destination drive and compares the copied size to the size on DVD (in case something went wrong during the copying). It can also mirror a whole DVD video part and copy single files.

Aurion Music Manager (AMM) has been designed to be a very user-friendly interface for using mpg123, cdrecord, mkisofs, lame, and other very powerful command-line music tools. It uses the SDL for its graphics, and the interface can use the TV output capability featured by several video cards. AMM also includes a WAV file player, called pwav123.

Shout2rtp acts as a Shoutcast server. It receives a Shoutcast stream, and converts it into a multicast RTP stream, which can be sent out over a LAN. Listeners can use a player like FreeAmp (www.freeamp.org) to listen to the stream.

shn2make works with sets of SHN or FLAC audio files and the make program to automate the burning of archive and audio CDs, and the encoding of MP3 and Ogg files. It finds the SHN or FLAC files in the current directory and verifies the MD5 checksums. It then looks for the .nfo or .txt file, finds the song names, and matches the songs to the available files. If everything is correct, it outputs the text of a Makefile. The targets of the makefile automate the various tasks that need to be done with SHN and FLAC sets. For example, "make Ogg" will uncompress and then encode all the files in the set to named and tagged Ogg Vorbis files.

Xvid (formerly XviD) is an open source MPEG-4 video codec, implementing MPEG-4 Simple Profile, Advanced Simple Profile, and Advanced Video Coding standards. It is written in C with assembler optimizations for quality and speed (including MMX, SSE, and 3Dnow! code for i386 and AltiVec for PowerPC), and is especially optimized towards offline, multi-pass compression for storage and archival purposes.

Maudio is a simple audio mirroring device (a sort of audio pipe). Unlike a filesystem pipe, maudio behaves as a hardware soundcard. In particular, after installation of the driver, you get two audio-like devices (usually /dev/dsp0 and /dev/dsp1) which are connected to each other. Everything sent to the first DSP will appear as sound data on the second DSP and vice versa.

Libquicktime is based on the quicktime4linux library with several enhancements. All 3rd-party libraries were removed from the sourcetree. Instead, the systemwide installed libraries are detected by the configure script. All original codecs were moved into dynamically loadable modules, and new codecs are in development. Special API extensions allow access to the codec registry and more convenient processing of audio and video data. Libquicktime comes with original utility programs and additional tools, like a command line player and a GTK configuration utility that can configure the parameters of all installed codecs. The configuration is stored in the home directory, and can be used by all libquicktime applications.
