Distributed MP3/Ogg Encoder is a distributed MP3/Ogg encoder/ripper front-end. To use this you run one script to rip a CD into .wav files, and you run the other one on as many computers as you have. This second script examines the .wav files, encodes them, and writes them out as .mp3 or .ogg files. It has FreeDB support. Requires a ripper program, an encoder program, and a few Perl modules.
mp3clean takes a list of files and presents each file's ID3 tag for re-editing. If no ID3 tag is found, mp3clean will go through great effort to clean up and create a suggestion for ID3 tags from looking at the filenames. When you are satisfied with the ID3 tags, mp3clean will create a nice filename from the ID3 tag, based on your format string and general cleanup rules.
Drip is a DVD to divx conversion tool. The application is GNOME based, but the encoding part of it is available as a textmode tool. Using the GUI just makes it all easier, and adds some logic, like automatic filenaming and subpicture detection. Drip does the whole job in 1 go; no user interaction is needed during runtime.
Lava's jWave is a versatile set of packages for Java that allow you to easily create and process RIFF files, with a special emphasis on reading and writing Microsoft PCM .wav files. jWave was initially released as an integrated feature of Lava, a general-purpose class library for Java. By popular demand, it is distributed in its own bundle.
Bonk is an audio compression program that can operate in either lossy or lossless mode. In lossy mode, it achieves around 14:1 compression while remaining perceptually lossless; equivalent to around 95 kbps for CD quality stereo. In lossless mode, which allows exact recovery of the original audio file, the compression ratio is typically around 2:1. The compressed files are stored in a new format based on speech compression techniques. Compressed files can then be converted back to an uncompressed format or played back in real time.
Gmerlin is a set of multimedia libraries which comes with several applications. Applications include a full featured media player with Gtk-2 GUI, an audio/video transcoder, a webcam application, and an ALSA mixer. The libraries provide many low-level functions like handling of uncompressed A/V streams or decoding a wide range of multimedia formats. All libraries were written with good reusability in mind, so you can easily write your own applications based on gmerlin libraries.
