tovid is a suite of command line utilities (and a graphical frontend) for creating video discs in DVD, VCD, SVCD, and KVCD/KDVD formats (PAL or NTSC). tovid supports a wide variety of input video formats, and can encode to several different output resolutions. Discs may be authored with hierarchical menus for navigation and playback.

burnCDDA is a console frontend to cdrdao, cdrecord, MPlayer, mpg321, oggdec, mppdec, flac, normalize, and mp3_check. It can be used to create audio CDs from an M3U playlist (the playlist format of XMMS and amaroK) or from files inside a directory. It supports MP3, OGG Vorbis, Musepack, FLAC, WMA, M4A, and WAV files, and it might be the easiest way to copy an audio CD.

Video Contact Sheet *NIX creates a contact sheet (preview) from videos by taking still captures distributed over the length of the video. The output image contains useful information on the video such as codecs, file size, screen size, frame rate, and length. It requires MPlayer or FFmpeg and ImageMagick. It is confirmed to work on Linux and FreeBSD, and possibly other POSIX/UNIX systems.

audio convert is a script that converts between WAV, Ogg, MP3, MPC, FLAC, APE, AAC, and WMA files. It has an easy-to-use interface that makes it possible to fill in the tags for a few formats, copy the tags from input files into the new files, and choose the quality of compression. The script was initially designed for the Nautilus file browser and can be easily installed into Nautilus by using the installer provided with the script. You can then right-click on files and choose "audio-convert" from the "scripts" menu. The script is also known to work on rox or directly from a shell.

image2mpeg is a tool to convert digital photos (or any other images) into MPEG video streams, with transitions between the images. The photo stream may be accompanied with music (or any other audio stream). The resulting slideshow may be prepared for VCD, SVCD, or DVD playback in stand-alone players, or the MPEG videos may be converted into FLV (Flash Videos). The type of transition can be selected for each image separately from a set of fade, slide, roll, etc.

docx2txt is a tool that attempts to generate equivalent (ASCII) text files from Microsoft .docx documents, preserving some formatting and document information (which MS text conversion drops) along with appropriate character conversions for a good (ASCII) text experience. It is a platform independent solution consisting of (core) Perl and (wrapper) Unix/Windows shell scripts and a configuration file to control the output text appearance to fair extent. With unzippers like CakeCmd that can deal with corrupt Zip archives, this tool can extract text from corrupt docx documents in many cases, where MS word processor fails to even open them.
