Perl-LZO (aka Compress::LZO) provides Perl bindings for the LZO data compression library. You can access the LZO library from your Perl scripts thereby compressing ordinary Perl strings. LZO is a portable lossless data compression library written in ANSI C. It offers pretty fast compression and very fast decompression. Decompression requires no memory. In addition there are slower compression levels achieving a quite competitive compression ratio while still decompressing at this very high speed.
REOBack Backup Solution (pronounced "Ray-o-back") is a simple backup solution designed for Linux users and system administrators. It is designed to be simple to set up, and easy to use. It is great as a quick solution for those who procrastinate about backups. It supports automatic full/incremental backups of files you define, remote backups via SCP, SMB, NFS, or FTP, as well as auto deletion of old backups.
storeBackup is a backup utility that stores files on other disks. It's able to compress data, and recognize copying and moving of files and directories (deduplication), and unifies the advantages of traditional full and incremental backups. It can handle big image files with block-wise changes efficiently. Depending on its contents, every file is stored only once on disk. Tools for analyzing backup data and restoring are provided. Once archived, files are accessible by mounting file systems (locally, or via Samba or NFS). It is easy to install and configure. Additional features are backup consistency checking, offline backups, and replication of backups.
apachelogrotate.pl rotates and packs the logfiles of the Apache Web server on a Linux system without interrupting its service and without the need for a permanent change in the Web server configuration. Assuming that Apache is running, it will identify the log files which have to be rotated without any configuration, making it easy to install. By default, logfiles with more than 10 MB are rotated, but this parameter may be changed and/or a daily, monthly, or yearly rotation period can be configured. Documentation is included in the script itself.
rsyncbackup is a handy tool for scheduled backups using rsync. rsyncbackup lets you easily setup multiple source folders and destinations, both locally, on your iPod or external firewire disk, or at a remote destination using ssh. rsyncbackup has no GUI, but is based on editing configuration files. The script is meant to be run in a crontab, so user interaction is not neccesary. Basic terminal skills are required to use the program.
