imapbiff is a small perl/tk program that notifies you of new mail in an IMAP mail account. It only checks IMAP accounts, not local mail files or POP accounts. When you do not have any unread messages in your IMAP Inbox, it will display a mailbox icon with the flag lowered. When it detects new messages in your IMAP Inbox, it will beep and raise the flag. Whenever it is querying the IMAP server, a "?" is displayed to indicate that it is checking for messages.

GNU Anubis is an SMTP message submission daemon. It represents an intermediate layer between the mail user agent (MUA) and mail transport agent (MTA), receiving messages from the MUA, applying to them a set of predefined changes, and finally inserting modified messages into an MTA routing network. The set of changes applied to a message is configurable on a system-wide and per-user basis. The built-in configuration language used for defining sets of changes allows for considerable flexibility and is easily extensible.

E-MailRelay is a simple SMTP store-and-forward mail transport agent (MTA). It runs as an SMTP server, storing incoming e-mail in a local spool directory, and then forwarding the stored messages to a downstream SMTP server on request. It can also run as a proxy server, forwarding (and optionally pre-processing) incoming e-mail as soon as it is received. It does not do any message routing other than to a local postmaster. Because of its simplicity E-MailRelay is extremely easy to configure, typically requiring only the address of the downstream SMTP server to be put on the commandline.

PasTmon (Passive Application Response Time Monitor) passively monitors your application servers, measuring and reporting user response times, throughput and congestion. It currently works with HTTP, telnet, rlogin, rsh, FTP (control channel), SMTP, POP3, and IRC. Measurements are recorded in a PostgreSQL database and are presented graphically via a PHP Web front-end using R statistical analysis scripts to create the plots.

Topal is yet another program that links GnuPG and Pine/Alpine. It offers facilities to encrypt, decrypt, sign, and verify messages. Multiple PGP blocks included in the text of a message are processed by display filters. Decryption and verification output can be cached to reduce the number of times the passphrase is entered. RFC2015/3156 multipart messages can be sent and received. S/MIME messages are supported if gpgsm is available. It can be used as Alpine's sendmail-path command. A remote sending and decryption mode allows email to be read on a remote computer via SSH with secret keys on the local computer.
