It enables applications to benefit from multiple graphics cards, processors, and computers to scale rendering performance, visual quality, and display size. An Equalizer-based application runs unmodified on any visualization system, from a simple workstation to large scale graphics clusters, multi-GPU workstations, and Virtual Reality installations.
Sequoia provides high availability and performance scalability for databases. It is is the continuation of the C-JDBC project. It provides transparent database clustering (partitioning, replication, etc.). It works with any Java application without code modification and with any database engine. It has been successfully tested with Tomcat, JBoss, JOnAS, WebSphere, MySQL, PostgreSQL, Apache Derby, HSQLDB, SAP DB, Oracle, DB2, Sybase, MS SQL Server, Firebird, and more.
The Open Service Availability Framework (OpenSAF) is designed to work in a loosely coupled computer system with fast interconnections between the nodes. An application using OpenSAF could provide “five nines” (99.999 %) availability without re-inventing availability techniques. It provides mechanisms to replicate data between nodes, so that in case of failure the services can be started on a different node with the same state. It monitors itself for hardware and software failures, can keep several service instances running (with different availability models), and can automatically restart and migrate services to satisfy the availability requirements. It is based on the standard defined at saforum.org. It includes an availability management framework, a message service, a lock service, an event service, a checkpoint service, and much more.
JBoss is an Open Source, standards-compliant, Enterprise JavaBeans application server implemented in pure Java. JBoss provides JBossServer, the basic EJB container and JMX infrastructure, JBossMQ for JMS messaging, JBossMail for mail, JBossTX for JTA/JTS transactions, JBossSX for JAAS based security, JBossCX for JCA connectivity, and JBossCMP for CMP persistence. It integrates with Tomcat Servlet/JSP container and Jetty Web server/servlet container, and enables you to mix and match these components through JMX by replacing any component you wish with a JMX-compliant implementation for the same APIs. The goal is to provide a full J2EE stack in the Free/Open Source software world.
Heartbeat is a full-function high-availability system for Linux and other POSIX-like OSes. It monitors services and restarts them on errors. When managing a cluster (more than 1 machine), it will also monitor the members of the cluster and begin recovery of lost services in less than a second. It runs over serial ports and UDP broadcast/multicast, as well as OpenAIS multicast. It is easily adapted to different interconnect media and protocols. When used in a cluster, it can operate using shared disks, data replication, or no data sharing. Versions starting with 2.0 are comparable to any commercial HA package, providing resource monitoring, larger clusters, and detailed dependency information.

The goal is to develop a free and open platform for multi-user 3D virtual reality games, applications, and interactive, collaborative 3D virtual spaces. VOS is a powerful and generic network object framework designed to support a variety of high-performance applications. It is the basis for Ter'Angreal, a general-purpose browser application for entering and participating in 3D worlds.
libGlass is a scalable set of components that can be used by applications to perform distributed computing. Applications are built by reusing the available components as needed. One of the major goals of Glass is to be a user-friendly framework, not only suitable for new applications, but also for legacy code. This is an important feature, as most available solutions for distributed computing require a substantial amount of rewrite of legacy code.

MQ4CPP, or "Message Queuing for C++", is an implementation of an enterprise messaging system, also referred to as message-oriented middleware (MOM). It enables C++ application threads to communicate with other threads locally or remotely through the exchange of messages. A message is a request, report, and/or event that contains information needed to coordinate communication between different applications. MQ4CPP implements direct/indirect messaging, unsolicited messaging, request/reply, conversation, publish/subscribe, store & forward, and broadcast. It supports multithreading, application clustering (failover and session replication), and encryption. MQ4CPP also includes a distributed lock manager, a file transfer manager, and a distributed memory channel.
GRIA is Grid middleware that enables use of the Grid in a secure, interoperable and flexible manner. It makes use of business models, processes, and semantics to allow resource owners and users to discover each other and negotiate terms for access to high-value resources. It implements an overall business process to find, procure and utilise resources capable of carrying out high-value, expert-assisted computations. By focusing on business processes and the associated semantics, it enables users to provision for their computational needs more cost effectively, and develop new business models for some of their services. Services from different providers can be combined together to create applications using a simple and easy-to-use API.
