JTelIRC is an advanced IRC framework for Java. It is mainly intended for writing automated clients ("bots"), but may be used for normal clients as well. It provides an intuitive and well documented Java interface to IRC and makes it extremely easy to write advanced clients quickly.
iconvircproxy is a proxy for IRC users who want to talk in different character set environments. It is especially suitable for European users who occasionally talk on Japanese channels. It requires a fully UTF-8 compatible IRC client, and can talk in ISO-8859-*, ISO-2022-JP, SHIFT-JIS, and UTF-8 encodings. Encodings can be configured on a channel-by-channel basis, and heuristics are used to determine the encoding of each character of traffic.

JBuddy Messenger is an instant messaging client designed for everyday business use. It supports public instant messaging networks including AIM, ICQ, MSN, and Yahoo. With a paid license, JBuddy Messenger adds support for Google Talk, IBM Lotus Sametime, XMPP/Jabber, Microsoft Office Communications Server (OCS 2007) and Live Communications Server (LCS 2005), and the JBuddy Message Server. JBuddy Messenger offers the concept of a Meta-Buddy (Trillian calls them Meta Contacts), which is an aggregation of the presence of multiple screen names under one buddy. Also, buddy groups of the same name across multiple accounts can be visually merged to simplify large buddy lists.
Licq includes all the basic features of ICQ, like sending/receiving messages, chat, file transfer, contact list with pixmaps and user status, basic/extended user info, adding/editing users from within the GUI, user history, user groups, and new user registration. All commands and information are available through a simple and convenient tab dialog. Licq also has a completely configurable user interface with Skin and Icon pack support. It is written in C++ and comes with a GUI plugin using the Qt widget set. Other plugins are also available, like basic MSN support.
GNUSTEP Live CD contains a lot of software for GNUstep, a free implementation of the OPENSTEP framework (which is also directly used in Mac OS X as Cocoa). It includes excellent applications for RAD (GORM and ProjectCenter). The CD is available for i486, AMD64, Apple Mac PowerPC, and Sun UltraSPARC computers.
