CDDB.py provides an easy way for Python programs to fetch track and disc information on audio CDs. This information is acquired from CDDB, a very large online database of track listings and other information on audio CDs. Included is a C extension module to enable Python to read track listings from audio CDs under Linux, Solaris, FreeBSD, OpenBSD, and Win32. The interface to this extension module is portable and is intended to be ported to other OSes easily.
Jack is a console based cd-ripper. It supports cdparanoia and cdda2wav (amongst others) for extraction and various MP3 and OGG/Vorbis encoders; you can even rip from a cdrdao-generated CD image. Emphasis is on failure-safeness and ease of use. Jack can encode multiple tracks at once, good on SMP systems. It can resume its work if interrupted and keeps an eye on available HD space. Freedb query is also supported, any time you like, even after encoding. Jack can try to query freedb for MP3s of which you do not know the CD anymore, provided you have a complete rip and know the track sequence.
Xpand is a simple Python script with Glade GUI front-end for sox, cdparanoia, notlame, mpg123, and normalize. It uses the compand option in sox to adjust the dynamic range of music so the soft parts can be heard in a noisy environment, such as a car. The volume level can be normalized to a standard level so that music originally recorded at different levels will all have the same volume. Music can be read from an MP3, WAV file, or straight from a music CD and output to a MP3 or WAV file.
cdname.py names MP3 files and generates M3U playlists from CDDB/freedb INF files. (These are often retrieved with cdda2wav -L). MP3s and playlists can be named using any combination of artist name, track title, album name, track number, etc. Many aspects are configurable via command line options. It should complement most ripping/encoding pipelines well.
FUPlayer is a full featured music manager and player for the GNOME desktop. With it, you can play music from your hard drive, create playlists, do real file management using its Trash, and play, rip, and burn audio CDs. It features an interface similar to those of many modern manager-style players, but with many improvements, such as true non-modal search and browse functionality, find-as-you-type, and drag destination highlighting. It aims to be extremely user friendly and efficient to use.
python-musicbrainz2 provides simple, object oriented access to the MusicBrainz Web service. The MusicBrainz Project (see http://musicbrainz.org) provides music metadata maintained by its large and constantly growing user community. This package helps you to write CD ripper applications, taggers, and media players by giving easy access to music metadata.
