CDDB.py provides an easy way for Python programs to fetch track and disc information on audio CDs. This information is acquired from CDDB, a very large online database of track listings and other information on audio CDs. Included is a C extension module to enable Python to read track listings from audio CDs under Linux, Solaris, FreeBSD, OpenBSD, and Win32. The interface to this extension module is portable and is intended to be ported to other OSes easily.
ID3.py is an object-oriented Python module for manipulating the so-called ID3 informational tags on MP3 files, which include such data as artist, track title, genre, et cetera. ID3.py is extremely easy to use, and is intended for folks who are developing MP3 encoder wrapper programs or browsers in Python.
Jack is a console based cd-ripper. It supports cdparanoia and cdda2wav (amongst others) for extraction and various MP3 and OGG/Vorbis encoders; you can even rip from a cdrdao-generated CD image. Emphasis is on failure-safeness and ease of use. Jack can encode multiple tracks at once, good on SMP systems. It can resume its work if interrupted and keeps an eye on available HD space. Freedb query is also supported, any time you like, even after encoding. Jack can try to query freedb for MP3s of which you do not know the CD anymore, provided you have a complete rip and know the track sequence.
tocgen is a versatile command line cdrdao toc file generator, written in Python, of particular use to those wishing to split tapes and LPs into tracks. The ability to split a wav file into regular sized tracks with little effort is what most distinguishes tocgen from tocmake and wavtoc. It was written with a view towards clarity and therefore should be easy to modify, if necessary.
Xpand is a simple Python script with Glade GUI front-end for sox, cdparanoia, notlame, mpg123, and normalize. It uses the compand option in sox to adjust the dynamic range of music so the soft parts can be heard in a noisy environment, such as a car. The volume level can be normalized to a standard level so that music originally recorded at different levels will all have the same volume. Music can be read from an MP3, WAV file, or straight from a music CD and output to a MP3 or WAV file.
GrypPhon focuses on adding new features to the old concept of a CD player, while maintaining extreme configurability. It is written purely in Python and contains a Linux CD-ROM audio library for Python containing all normal CD-playing features, plus volume control and skipping/searching.
The GNU Compact Disc Input and Control library encapsulates CD-ROM reading and control for applications wishing to be oblivious to the OS- and device-dependent properties of a CD-ROM. It provides an API for access to SCSI-MMC (multimedia commands) and support for CD image types like BIN/CUE, cdrdao's TOC, and Nero's NRG, which gives applications using the library the ability to read disc images as though they were CDs. ISO-9660 filesystem support is included, as are utility programs for displaying CD and CD-ROM drive information, reading the blocks of a CD, and extracting files from an ISO-9660 filesytem image. cdparanoia is also included.
