It provides an API for access to SCSI-MMC (multimedia commands) and support for CD image types like BIN/CUE, cdrdao's TOC, and Nero's NRG, which gives applications using the library the ability to read disc images as though they were CDs. ISO-9660 filesystem support is included, as are utility programs for displaying CD and CD-ROM drive information, reading the blocks of a CD, and extracting files from an ISO-9660 filesytem image. cdparanoia is also included.

It can be used to create audio CDs from an M3U playlist (the playlist format of XMMS and amaroK) or from files inside a directory. Find Duplicate Music Files detects music files that contain the same music, even if the files are differently named, and are in different formats such as MP3, OGG, WAV, WMA, M4A, and RealAudio and contain different or non-existent meta-information such as ID3 tags. The program operates on whole directories of music files, analyzes them, and outputs the filenames of pairs that seem similar, based on their audio fingerprint or perceptual hash.

ripx is a script designed to make ripping CDs as easy as possible. It features CDDB lookup, ID3 tag editing prior to ripping, playlist file generation, album directory creation, and generally a nicer interface than many similar tools. By default, ripx uses cdparanoia to extract audio from CDs and lame to encode the audio to MP3 format at the quality of your choice. If you wish to use alternative applications for extraction or encoding, modifying ripx to handle these should be fairly painless.
