GNU VCDImager is a program for making Video CD (and Super Video CD, a.k.a. SVCD) images out of MPEG movie files. The images it creates are ready to use with programs which understand BIN/CUE images, such as cdrdao. GNU VCDRip allows for reversing the process, ripping mpeg tracks from (Super) Video CDs.
The GNU Compact Disc Input and Control library encapsulates CD-ROM reading and control for applications wishing to be oblivious to the OS- and device-dependent properties of a CD-ROM. It provides an API for access to SCSI-MMC (multimedia commands) and support for CD image types like BIN/CUE, cdrdao's TOC, and Nero's NRG, which gives applications using the library the ability to read disc images as though they were CDs. ISO-9660 filesystem support is included, as are utility programs for displaying CD and CD-ROM drive information, reading the blocks of a CD, and extracting files from an ISO-9660 filesytem image. cdparanoia is also included.
The DashPC car multimedia system is a UI for automobile multimedia implemented in Linux. Its provides a comprehensive interface for MP3, DVD, and CD playback, a radio card interface, and GPS navigation. It features an easy-to-use interface and a modular design. Its functionality is configurable and the system is expandable with the use of plug-ins, which currently include plug-ins for controlling video4linux supported radio cards, viewing images, and running external commands.
Sonic-Rainbow is a Linux GUI multimedia player. It plays DVDs, VCDs, and video files. It plays CDs, rips CDs to Ogg, MP3, FLAC, and WAV files, and has an Ogg, MP3, FLAC and WAV player, as well as a playlist editor and a TAG editor to create and modify MP3, Ogg, and FLAC file tags. HTTP is used to download and locally store CD Info from Freedb such that the CD player, ripper, Ogg player, FLAC Player, and MP3 player are able to display CD track and artist information. The GUI playlist editor creates playlists containing single Ogg, FLAC, or MP3 files and directories of Ogg, FLAC, or MP3 files. It provides support for FM radio cards if installed.

CDDE is a program that detects when a CDROM drive has a disc inserted. When it finds a disc inserted in the drive it will attempt to determine the type of disc, and execute a specified command. This means a DVD can be inserted and your favorite DVD software will start, or a data CD can be automatically mounted.
