ZoneMinder is a suite of applications intended for use in video camera security applications, including theft prevention and child or family member monitoring. It supports capture, analysis, recording, and monitoring of video data coming from one or more video or network cameras attached to a Linux system. It also features a user-friendly Web interface which allows viewing, archival, review, and deletion of images and movies captured by the cameras. The image analysis system is highly configurable, permitting retention of specific events, while eliminating false positives. ZoneMinder supports both directly connected and network cameras and is built around the definition of a set of individual 'zones' of varying sensitivity and functionality for each camera. This allows the elimination of regions which should be ignored or the definition of areas which will alarm if various thresholds are exceeded in conjunction with other zones. All management, control, and other functions are supported through the Web interface.
Exiv2 is a C++ library and a command line utility for managing image metadata. It provides fast and easy read and write access to the Exif, IPTC, and XMP metadata of images in many formats. unicap is a library to access different kinds of capture devices. Device drivers are loaded with a plugin system so that new drivers can be easily added. Currently, it has support for video-4-linux, video-4-linux-2, IIDC cameras, and video-to-firewire converters, and provides GTK widgets for live video display and access to device properties.
RPhoto is a handy image editor to simplify cropping of digital camera pictures and avoid white borders introduced by incorrect height/width ratios. It also has lossless rotate and flip features, as well as a unique way to rectify a bad angle by only drawing a horizontal or vertical line.
motion uses a video4linux device for detecting movement. It makes snapshots of the movement which can be converted to MPEG movies in realtime (or later for low CPU usage), making it usable as an observation or security system. It can take actions like sending out email and SMS messages when detecting motion.
