libiptcdata is a C library for manipulating the International Press Telecommunications Council (IPTC) metadata stored within multimedia files such as images. This metadata can include captions and keywords, often used by popular photo management applications. The library provides routines for parsing, viewing, modifying, and saving this metadata. The libiptcdata package also includes Python bindings and a command-line utility, iptc, for viewing and editing IPTC data in JPEG files.
libvcvideo is targeted as a super-simple cross platform video device library. It's starting with the most basic features and building up, all while keeping a simple API and strong documentation for beginners. Currently only select devices are supported, but as more hardware becomes available that will change. Right now it only has limited compatibility with Linux Webcam devices that use the original V4L specifications and output RGB24 data. This is actually a very large set of devices, as that is the generic description for most spca5xx and gspca devices. Though incomplete, if you have the right device it is very simple. Counting variable declaration, you only need four lines of library code to get a frame from a camera.
mgadvd is a Matrox G200/Zoran 36700 hardware MPEG decoder driver for Linux. It allows you to play MPEG-1, MPEG-2, and DVD streams through the Zoran 36700 Vaddis III decoder (connected to the G200) with very low CPU usage. Supported DVD audio formats are AC3 (Dolby Digital) and PCM. Included is a player app called mzplay that plays DVD directly from the disc as well as MPEG-1 and MPEG-2 video and audio (Layer II only) files.
mimms is an MMS (e.g. mms://) stream downloader. mimms is a program designed to allow you to download streams using the MMS protocol and save them to your computer, as opposed to watching them live. Similar functionality is available in full media player suites such as Xine, MPlayer, and VLC, but mimms can be quicker and easier to use.
Mjpeg tools is a suite of programs which support video capture, basic editing, playback, and compression to MPEG-1/2 of MJPEG video. The capture software allows MJPEG video streams in AVI, Quicktime, and movtar format to be produced using the Iomega Buz, Miro DC10+, Matrox Marvel, and similar hardware. The editing and playback tools are hardware independent, with support for hardware accelerated playback if present. The MPEG compression tools are based on MPEG Software Simulation Group's reference encoder with enhancements to provide far faster compression and significant quality improvements.
motion uses a video4linux device for detecting movement. It makes snapshots of the movement which can be converted to MPEG movies in realtime (or later for low CPU usage), making it usable as an observation or security system. It can take actions like sending out email and SMS messages when detecting motion.
