It increases performance of PHP scripts by caching them in a compiled state, so that the overhead of compiling is almost completely eliminated. It also uses some optimizations for speeding up PHP scripts' execution. It typically reduces server load and increases the speed of PHP code by 1-10 times. It is tested with PHP 4.1.0-4.3.3, and Apache 1.3 and 2.0 under Linux and Windows.

Midgard is a persistent storage framework. It provides an object-oriented and replicated environment for building data-intensive applications. It ships with a MidCOM content management system built on the Midgard framework.
