Schmant is a build tool for building Java programs. It provides a set of build tasks (compile, text process, tar archive, etc.) and an environment in which to run build scripts. Build scripts can be written Groovy, JavaScript, JRuby, or Jython. The goal of the project is to be feature-comparable with Apache Ant, but much nicer to work with.

Nix is a purely functional package manager. It allows multiple versions of a package to be installed side-by-side, ensures that dependency specifications are complete, supports atomic upgrades and rollbacks, allows non-root users to install software, and has many other features. It is the basis of the NixOS Linux distribution, but it can be used equally well under other Unix systems.

rootpretender is a system that enables special file operations such as the creation of block special and character special device nodes and unlimited chown()ing of files for non-root users of Unix systems. It does this by faking special file operations. For example, chown() is not executed, and mknod() creates regular files instead of device nodes. These operations are remembered, so next time a process under rootpretender's control examines an affected file with stat() or a similar system call, the fake information is returned. It uses LD_PRELOAD and includes patches for rsync 2.6.6 and rsync 2.6.9 for use on systems without LD_PRELOAD support. These make it possible to copy file ownership and device nodes even if root access is not available on the target.

Multi-Dimensional Clustering (MDC) Table Size Estimator for DB2 is an application that can be used to optimally estimate space requirements based on table statistics and MDC parameters. It has the ability to use one or more clustering dimensions, which speeds up the query process and frees users from the burdens of converting a table to MDC on AIX and Windows.

Tarlisted takes lines of text as an input and creates tar archive based on that information. Each line contains permission, user, group, and a path name that are to be written in the header part of the tar entry. In addition, at the end of line the syntax varies depending the file type archived. For example, in the case of regular files, the filename where file content is read is added. Tarlisted creates POSIX.1-1998 tar file format only, and can archive all seven of the file types it supports.

Rant is a flexible build tool. The equivalent to a Makefile for make is the Rantfile, which is actually a valid Ruby script that is read in by the rant command. It currently features automated testing, packaging, and RDoc generation for Ruby applications and libraries, creation of gzipped tar and zip archives on all supported platforms without additional software, recognition of file changes based on MD5 checksums, dependency checking for C/C++ source files (makedepend is not required), and more. It can generate a script tailored to the needs of a specific project, which can be used instead of an Rant installation so that users aren't dependent on Rant.

AntFlow builds upon Apache Ant to provide a new approach to simplifying system automation that uses pipelines of hot folders chained together to perform a given task. Using XML, it associates an automated task such as data transfer, encryption, or XML processing with a directory on the local system. Whenever a file is copied or written into the hot folder, the associated task is executed and the file is moved to the next hot folder in the pipeline for further processing.
