passwdqc is a password/passphrase strength checking and policy enforcement tool set, including an optional PAM module (pam_passwdqc), command-line programs (pwqcheck and pwqgen), and a library (libpasswdqc). On systems with PAM, pam_passwdqc is normally invoked on password changes by programs such as passwd(1). It is capable of checking password or passphrase strength, enforcing a policy, and offering randomly-generated passphrases, with all of these features being optional and easily (re-)configurable. pwqcheck and pwqgen are standalone password/passphrase strength checking and random passphrase generator programs, respectively, and are usable from scripts. libpasswdqc is the underlying library, which may also be used from third-party programs.
pngcheck is the official PNG tester and debugger. Originally designed simply to test the CRCs within a PNG image file (e.g., to check for ASCII rather than binary transfer), it has since been extended to check and optionally print almost all the information about a PNG image and to verify that it conforms to the PNG specification. It also includes partial support for MNG animations.
RabbIt is a mutating, caching Web proxy used to speed up surfing over slow links like modems. It does this by removing advertising and background images and scaling down images to low quality JPEGs. RabbIT is written in Java and should be able to run on any platform. It does depend upon an image converter if image scaling is on. The recommended image converter is "convert" from the ImageMagick package.
scdbackup is a simplified CD/DVD backup program for Linux. It can back up large amounts of data on one or more media, with no special tools needed for reading the backup. It supports ISO9660 filesystems and afio archives. Its special features are automatic division of data into multiple volumes, verification of write success, incremental backups, a search and restore helper for large ISO9660 backups. CDs get written via cdrecord, wodim, cdrskin, or xorriso. DVDs and BDs get written via growisofs, cdrskin, or xorriso.
SffTools consists of SffToBmp, a little utility that converts Structured Fax Files to BMP, PBM, JPEG, or single- and multipage TIFF format, and SffView, a GUI viewer for those files. The tools should be especially useful to people who are faxing with ISDN cards because the CAPI interface of these cards generates such files. CAPI support for Linux is available for the active card AVM B1 and the passive card AVM Fritz!.
Sfront compiles MPEG 4 Structured Audio (MP4-SA) programs into efficient C programs that generate audio when executed. MP4-SA is a standard for normative algorithmic sound, which combines an audio signal processing language (SAOL) with score languages (MIDI and SASL). Under Mac OS X and Linux, sfront supports real-time, low-latency audio input/output and MIDI input. Under Mac OS X, sfront supports the creation of AudioUnit plug-ins. The documentation includes a book about SAOL programming.
