xinetd is a replacement for inetd, the internet services daemon. Anybody can use it to start servers that don't require privileged ports because xinetd does not require that the services in its configuration file be listed in /etc/services. It can do access control on all services based on the address of the remote host, time of access, connection attempts, or process limits. Access control works on all services, whether multi-threaded or single-threaded and for both the TCP and UDP protocols. xinetd supports both internal access control, and the use of the libwrap library. IPv6 with access control is also supported. It can redirect service requests to other machines, and has the standard built in services, including tcpmux.
xmlrpc-c is a programming library for writing an XML-RPC server or client in C or C++. XML-RPC is a standard network protocol to allow a client program to make a simple remote procedure call (RPC) type request of a server. It's like SOAP or CORBA, but much simpler. This library speaks the same XML-RPC as similar libraries for lots of other programming languages, with most of the popular extensions. The client library uses either w3c libwww or Curl for HTTP. The server library contains a complete lightweight HTTP (Web) server and also facilities for running with CGI under any Web server.
Xnetintf is an X Windows application that manages network interfaces. The current interface state is depicted through a series of bitmaps, and a mouse click in the window initiates a state transition. Xnetintf uses a per-interface configuration file to supply commands that check and toggle state, as well as a program to run after the state change completes. A command line interface is also supported.
