Tsung is a distributed load testing tool. It is protocol-independent and can currently be used to stress HTTP, WebDAV, PostgreSQL, MySQL, LDAP, AMQP, and XMPP/Jabber servers. It simulates user behavior using an XML description file, reports many measurements in real time (statistics can be customized with transactions, and graphics generated using gnuplot). For HTTP, it supports 1.0 and 1.1, has a proxy mode to record sessions, supports GET, POST, PUT, and DELETE methods, cookies, and basic/digest authentication. It also has support for SSL, WebSocket, and BOSH.
DJFractal is yet another fractal generator which distributes fractal data to multiple computers. Fractal data are created locally and distributed to other computers that run the appropriate fractal-generation software, which may be hosted on workstations, or on a Java enabled Web-browser through applets, or on a system with JavaCard. DJFractal's unique feature is the "smart" algorithm it uses to compute (and draw) the most interesting part of a fractal first.
kernbench is a CPU throughput benchmark. It is designed to compare kernels on the same machine, or to compare hardware. It runs a kernel compile at various numbers of concurrent jobs: 1/2 number of CPUs, optimal (default is 4xnumber of CPUs), and maximal job count. Optionally it can also run single threaded. It then prints out a number of useful statistics for the average of each group of runs.
FSHeal aims to be a general filesystem tool that can scan and report vital "defective" information about the filesystem like broken symlinks, forgotten backup files, and left-over object files, but also source files, documentation files, user documents, and so on. It will scan the filesystem without modifying anything and reporting all the data to a logfile specified by the user which can then be reviewed and actions taken accordingly.
bytecounter is a program that copies data while showing a status line indicating the data rate and estimated time remaining. Optionally, it retries on errors, which is useful for recovering files from bad media. It designed to be used "in-between" two programs to measure rate of data flow, such as between the output of a tar command and a file. It works with files, floppy disks, hard disks, terminals, tapes, CD-ROMs, FIFOs, and anything else you can think of.
coNCePTuaL is a domain-specific programming language for rapidly generating programs that measure the performance and/or test the correctness of networks and network protocol layers. A few lines of coNCePTuaL code can produce programs that would take significantly more effort to write in a conventional programming language.
