This release is based on the Unix port of beta release 2 of BYTE Magazine's BYTEmark benchmark program (previously known as BYTE's Native Mode Benchmarks). The port to Linux/Unix was done by Uwe F. Mayer. Additional changes to the code were made to make the code work with egcs compiler and to make the software packagable. This is a CPU benchmark providing indexes for integer, floating, and memory performance. It is single-threaded and is not designed to measure the performance gain on multi-processor machines.
The Open Hardware Certification Program (OHCP) Test Suite is a collection of tests to verify the compatibility of your hardware with Open Source operating systems. Tests have been contributed by multiple authors and organizations, and are bundled with documentation, test procedures, and some automation scripts to help run the tests.
OSDB, the open source database benchmark, is intended for the use of system and database developers, providing a significant chunk of benchmark code that can be used, tailored, and tweaked according to local needs. It is derived from AS3AP (ANSI SQL Standard and Portable Benchmark); its most important change is the segmentation of the benchmark, allowing developers to concentrate on the results that are most relevant to their work.
Performance Co-Pilot (PCP) is a framework and set of services for supporting system-level performance monitoring and performance management. It provides a unifying abstraction for all of the interesting performance data in a system, and allows client applications to easily retrieve and process any subset of that data using a single API. A client-server architecture allows multiple clients to monitor the same host, and a single client to monitor multiple hosts. Archive logging and replay are integrated so that a client application can use the same API to process real-time data from a host or historical data from an archive.
This suite currently consists of three programs, Postal, Rabid, and BHM. Postal (the mad postman) is a program that will deliver mail as fast as possible via the SMTP protocol to test mail server performance. Rabid (the mad Biff) will eat mail via the POP protocol as fast as possible and measure POP server performance. BHM is the Black Hole Mailer to discard SMTP mail. All messages sent via Postal have MD5 checksums appended, and Rabid will check the MD5 to ensure that the messages are not being corrupted.
PureLoad is a load testing tool that simulates thousands of users executing requests against server based applications. It can be used to verify that your application will meet the expected performance criteria. PureLoad reports quality and performance problems, as well as detailed statistics gathered during a load test. PureLoad also includes extensive support for easy recording and testing of Web-based applications. The HTTP Recorder ease the process of capturing HTTP and HTTPS requests into PureLoad scenarios. The Web Crawler is used to scan a static Web site for general errors, and it can also be used to generate PureLoad scenarios to be used in a load test.
Siege is a regression test and benchmark utility. It can stress test a single URL with a user defined number of simulated users, or it can read many URLs into memory and stress them simultaneously. The program reports the total number of hits recorded, bytes transferred, response time, concurrency, and return status. Siege supports HTTP/1.0 and 1.1 protocols, GET and POST directives, cookies, transaction logging, and basic authentication. Its features are configurable on a per user basis.
