Closebracket lets you define multiple shell actions in a single command to speed up the typing of the most repetitive shell commands. It includes ']' and '][' commands, which are located near the "Enter" key and are easy to type quickly. They invoke primary and secondary actions respectively.
DVD Rip-O-Matic is a simple DVD-to-XviD ripping wizard that uses MEncoder to do the actual encoding. The wizard was designed to be very easy to use; it automatically detects the optimal settings. It should also produce very high quality AVI files, even if you have no idea what the settings mean and just use it in the next-next-next-finish way.
The GUIShell project is a collection of utilities facilitating the use of the GTK+ toolkit in shell scripts through the gtkshell utility. The ACE configuration environment provides sample scripts utilizing gtkshell for desktop utilities. rootcat provides the ability to display messages to the root window using Xft, allowing one to write status display scripts.
KScannerButtons is a daemon plus an optional KDE frontend for monitoring your scanner buttons so that actions can be taken in response to button presses. It's composed of a daemon (sanebuttond), a frontend that will display an icon in the systray, and a dialog box to configure and launch the daemon. It is based on the button monitoring capabilities found in some SANE backends. It has been tested with the avision backend and an HP 5300C scanner. The frontend requires Kommander (kde-webdev).
KmPg2 is a user-friendly MPEG2 encoding wizard which assists the user while creating high quality DVD compatible MPEG2 streams from any input video. It is designed to be easy to use, requiring little technical knowledge. The wizard uses the powerful video processing tools and the MPEG2 encoder from the MJPEGTools project. KmPg2 features a separate profiler, which can be used to interactively create custom preprocessing profiles for specific types of video material.
Laptop Mode Tools allows you to control various power management settings based on AC/battery power state. Among other things, it controls Linux's "Laptop Mode" feature that allows your hard drive to spin down for extended periods. It can also control CPU frequency scaling and screen blanking timeouts (both terminal and X). It supports automatic hibernation when battery is low.
