Xfiles is an interactive utility for comparing and merging one file tree with another over a network. It supports freeform work on several machines (no need to keep track of what files are changed on which machine). Xfiles can also be used as a cross-validating disk<->disk backup strategy.

JMTF is a Java application and a set of Java classes that read MTF (Microsoft Tape Format), which is the format used by NTBackup, XPBackup, and the like (BKF files). Its intent is to provide an OS-independent means to restore MTF files. Unlike the MTF applications that ship with NT/2000/XP/etc, It does not catalog the file prior to restoration, which means it can restore broken files.
pkt is a universal XML packet archiver. It can manipulate files for backing up documents, transferring them across networks, emailing them, and sharing them by other means (p2p etc). It uses plugin filters to do the job and handles virtually any format available if there is a plugin for it. It handles encryption, compression, conversion, parity checking, decryption, decoding, repairing, rebuilding, and other tasks using a universal file format (XML-based). By default, all pkt output is in 7-bit ASCII which is UTF encoded and is compatible with XML parsers. pkt files can be disassembled, reassembled, and repaired by hand if necessary. pkt also supports the use of 8-bit compressed XML packets for its archives using one of several compression algorithms. In general, pkt will try to use the best algorithms available.
Magic Mirror Backup works by copying the files and folders on your computer to other computers within your office. In exchange, these other computers also copy their own files onto your computer. This sharing of backups has quite a few advantages not the least of which are that it is extremely convenient and cost effective. (This symbiotic mechanism for backing up data is often called peer to peer backup or p2p backup.) There is also an optional off-site component so that you can additionally backup to a remote server to protect against office-wide failures like fire, theft, or hurricanes.
