Clonezilla is a partition or disk cloning tool similar to Symantec Ghost. It saves and restores only blocks in use on the hard drive if the file system is supported. For unsupported file systems, dd is used instead. It has been used to clone a 5 GB system to 40 clients in about 10 minutes.
libburnia is a project comprised of libraries and binaries for reading, mastering, and writing optical discs. It provides libburn, a CD/DVD/BD burn library, libisofs, a manipulation library for ISO 9660 filesystems, and libisoburn, a ISO 9660 multi-session library. On top of them there is cdrskin, a cdrecord emulator, and xorriso, a all-in-one application for ISO 9660 multi-session operations which additionaly provides a limited emulation of mkisofs.
KBACKUP is intended for handling of backups no matter whether they reside on disk or tape or even in files. As most other backup programs available today are either confusing the user with lots of long command line options, or user friendly but not powerful at all, the aim behind writing KBACKUP was to provide a user friendly yet powerful backup program. It is also intended to be kept compatible to existing and well proven archive formats, so you can restore your archives even if you should not have KBACKUP around anymore.
BackupEDGE provides live system backup and restoration and includes the RecoverEDGE Crash Recovery package. By using this tool, you can create emergency recovery diskettes to rebuild your system in the case of a catastrophic hardware failure. RecoverEDGE handles the details of reconstructing your FDisk, divvy, and/or slice tables, rebuilding your filesystems, and restoring your data, even if your hard drive size and / or geometry has changed. RecoverEDGE uses your live system backups, so there's no need to shut down your system in order to protect it.
GNU xorriso creates, loads, manipulates, and writes ISO 9660 filesystem images with Rock Ridge extensions. Files can be copied in and out. The session results get written to optical media or to filesystem objects. Rather than needing external tools for ISO 9660 production and CD/DVD/BD burning, it is a static compilation of libburnia-project.org. Thus GNU xorriso depends only on fundamental operating system facilities.
backupIT is a script to backup local and remote filesystems onto a remote tape drive. It includes a collection of functions to send mail, to use system commands to drive a tape library, and to use NetBackup(tm) to drive a tape library. backupIT uses rsh/ssh to connect to remote hosts, and it supports ufs, vxfs, and ext2 file systems. It works on Solaris, Slackware Linux, and Red Hat Linux systems. backupIT requires the dump utility, which might not be installed on Linux systems.
dnbackup is yet another client-server backup solution. Design goals include portability (within Unix variants), security, minimizing trust between client and server, ability to optimize for remote backups over slower speed links, and OS independence in the communication protocol (thus allowing for non-UNIX clients).
Better Backup is a backup manager designed to handle large volumes of data at high speed. It is extremely fast and flexible. The system is designed to back up to magnetic tape, CD/R, or DVD-R, or almost any other media. One of the main features of this program is its ability to preform a fast restore from magnetic tape through its use of file markers. The program is extremely flexible allowing the user to customize most aspects of the backup through a configuration file.
