Attic is a deduplicating backup program. The main goal of attic is to provide an efficient and secure way to back up data. The data deduplication technique used makes Attic suitable for daily backups since only actual changes are stored. Main features: space efficient storage, optional data encryption, and off-site backups.
MySQLBackup is a script that allows you to make date-time stamped backups of individual MySQL databases. Each database backup is a gzip compressed SQL script that can be restored and imported via the mysql command line tool. The tables of each database being backed up are locked, preserving data integrity. While this does temporarily prevent writes to the tables, the impact is reduced by backing up each database separately. This script backs up all databases accessible to the mysql user that it is configured to use. That means this script is useful to the sysadmin as well as to regular users who wish to maintain backups of their own MySQL databases.
The dsnapshot script provides a high-level interface to the Linux Logical Volume Manager. It uses its block-level snapshot support to create directory snapshots. In contrast to block-level snapshots, directory snapshots resemble the file system layer. Thus, you can snapshot any directory that is on a logical volume without worrying about the actual logical volumes, mount points, and paths.
Crackup is a pretty simple, pretty secure remote backup solution for folks who want to keep their data securely backed up but aren’t particularly concerned about bandwidth usage. Backups are compressed and (optionally) encrypted via GPG and can be transferred to the remote location over a variety of protocols, including FTP. Additional storage drivers can easily be written in Ruby.
Userexitd for TSM is a configurable handler for Tivoli Storage Manager events. It allows an administrator to filter events using regular expressions and run various actions for TSM events, such as sending mail and SNMP traps, writing messages into syslog, and running scripts and programs. This software consists of two parts: a simple shared library (userexit.so), which is dynamically linked to the TSM Server as a user exit and communicates using a socket with the userexitd daemon, which runs as a separate service. The daemon is configured with an XML configuration file.
flmkisofs is a very simple program for creating ISO images with the mkisofs program. It can create DVD video ISO images, Apple ISO filesystems, HFS/ISO filesystems, and El Torito or Generic bootable ISO filesystems. It fully supports versions 1 through 3 of the ISO filesystem standard, with RockRidge and Joliet extensions, and has partial UDF support.
Rsyncmanager is a daemon designed to simplify the task of coordinating multiple file transfers to or from a machine. It was originally written to serve as the managing hub of a backup system that used rsync to feed in files from many other machines, so that all backups could be run from a single place. It can be used to coordinate any kind of regular file transfer, from a simple hourly copy of an email store from a primary to a backup server, to multiple concurrent rsyncs to multiple machines on varying schedules.
mysqlblasy is a Perl script for automating MySQL database backups. It uses "mysqldump" for dumping mysql databases to the files sytem. It was written with automated usage in mind. For example, it is silent during operation, and only produces noise on errors/problems. It rotates backups automatically to prevent the backup disk from getting full when the administrator is on vacation (or is lazy).
