pmbw is a set of assembler routines to measure the parallel memory (cache and RAM) bandwidth of modern multi-core machines. Memory bandwidth is one of the key performance factors of any computer system. Today, measuring the memory performance often gives a more realistic view of the overall speed of a machine than pure arithmetic or floating-point benchmarks. pmbw contains a set of very basic functions which are all hand-coded in assembler to avoid any compiler optimizations. These basic functions are modeled after the basic inner loops found in any data processing, sequential scanning and pure random access. Any application will have a memory access pattern which is somewhere between these two extremes. The current version of pmbw supports benchmarking 16-, 32-, 64-, 128-, or 256-bit memory transfers on x86_32-bit, x86_64-bit, and ARMv6 systems.
YASP is a simple and open protocol for building networks with small microcontrollers. It is designed to have a small footprint for easy implementation with minimal hardware resources, but without sacrifice advanced features and future growth. The protocol scalability is implemented using variable length fields. The physical layer use the NRZ encoding as in RS-232, but using dominant and recessive bus states to provide a reliable way to detect collisions.
GeekOS is a tiny operating system kernel for x86 PCs. Its goal is to be simple enough for beginners to understand and modify, but realistic enough to be interesting and fun. The primary development environment for GeekOS is Linux or Windows using gcc, nasm, and the Bochs PC emulator.
rtldi is an ELF program interpreter that makes it possible for executables to use their own ld-linux.so.2 and libc.so.6 and associated shared libraries, independent of the default versions installed in /lib and any other executable. It facilitates the simultaneous interoperation of programs that were originally linked using different generations of glibc6. In theory it should not be necessary, but in practice glibc6 has not always been backward compatible.
