Gnofract 4D is a Gnome-based program to draw fractals. What sets it apart from other fractal programs (and makes it "4D") is the way that it treats the Mandelbrot and Julia sets as different views of the same four-dimensional fractal object. It contains a Fractint-compatible formula compiler, allowing it to draw an unlimited number of fractal types, using numerous coloring options.

DirectFB is a thin library that provides developers with hardware graphics acceleration, input device handling and abstraction, an integrated windowing system with support for translucent windows and multiple display layers on top of the Linux framebuffer device. Alphabet Soup is a project which attempts to determine a number of things about the shapes of letters in several different writing systems. First, it hypothesizes a set of basic building blocks that all letters are built up from. Second, it hypothesizes a set of rules, a grammar or syntax, which defines how those pieces combine to make different letters. It can generate individual letters, randomize letters in an input string to create weird but readable text, or generate random strings of symbols.

DMI Gallery is an editor-oriented image gallery application based on DMI. The editor just needs to FTP full-sized pictures into the directory and small and medium-sized thumbnails are automatically created. If a text documents with the same name as the picture is uploaded, it will be inserted as a description. DMI Gallery provides a complete set of navigation controls, and allows designers to create templates in their favorite HTML editor to customize the look and feel of the image gallery.

Tux Paint is a simple and entertaining drawing program geared towards young children. It has a simple interface, sound effects, and a cartoon character (Tux, the Linux penguin). Along with drawing brush strokes, lines and shapes, you can also enter text and place "rubber stamp" (or "sticker") images on the picture. Tux Paint is extensible, and could be useful in an educational environment (such as a grammar, elementary, or grade school). It's portable across numerous platforms, and runs well even on slower systems like the Pentium 133MHz.

XELand generates night landscapes as stereo pairs for cross-eye viewing. Currently it uses two map generation methods (plus some variations). Generated height maps are seamless and can be saved as PNG images. The program requires only JDK 1.5 or above, and is very easy to use. To take full advantage of XEland you should learn cross-eye viewing.
