Kognition is an omnifont OCR software for KDE. It is the result of two diploma theses about omnifont optical character recognition which are included as documentation (in German). Due to the fact that each step of the OCR process can be visualized you can get a quick idea of how OCR works and where the problems lie. However the program may be of minor/no use for end users in its current state.
lazar (Lazy-Structure-Activity Relationships) is a tool for the prediction of toxic activities of chemical structures. lazar derives predictions from databases with experimental toxicity data. It searches in these databases for compounds with similar structures and calculates the prediction from their measured activities.
lemontree provides a very fast Java class for the Walsh Hadamard transform (WHT) and O'Connor transform (OCT). You can regard the OCT as a black box which turns arbitrary numerical data into data with a Gaussian distribution. There are inverse transforms, also. It has many applications, such as Random Projections, Compressive Sensing, Neural Nets, and Genetic algorithms.
libGMUVision is framework for realtime computer vision applications that is designed to allow easier access to Firewire IIDC digital video cameras. It provides a set of C++ bindings for libdc1394 and Qt widgets for building graphical applications that process video streams in real time. A small sample application (Koriander Lite, based on the Coriander project) is included.
Libtextcat is a library with functions that implement the classification technique described in Cavnar & Trenkle, "N-Gram-Based Text Categorization". It was primarily developed for language guessing, a task on which it is known to perform with near- perfect accuracy. Considerable effort went into making this implementation fast and efficient. The language guesser processes over 100 documents/second on a simple PC, which makes it practical for many uses.
