It is designed with the goals of letting a home or office share a single CD burner between multiple users, and offloading the processing required by CD burning onto a dedicated machine.

dobackup.pl is a flexible Perl script to handle unattended incremental backups of multiple servers. It handles multiple media sets with automatic media preparation and rotation, configurable 'what-to-backup', global per-host exclusion patterns, and user settable 'don't-back-this-up' metafiles. Its design goal is zero-maintenance, nothing to do except change the media when told.

The Fink project wants to bring the full world of Unix Open Source software to Darwin and Mac OS X. It modifies Unix software so that it compiles and runs on Mac OS X and makes it available for download as a coherent distribution. Fink uses Debian tools like dpkg and apt-get to provide powerful binary package management. You can choose whether you want to download precompiled binary packages or build everything from source.

George is a file reorganizer and CD creator, especially suited for the creation of MP3 archive CD's. It will take files from all around your system and/or network, organize them into somewhat lexicographically sorted CD-sized chunks and provide means to create CDs using external pre-mastering and mastering software. George is written in perl, using the gnome-perl and Glade-perl modules (amongst others). There is also a command-line version of George which does not need any special (non-standard) Perl modules. To actually create CDs with George, you also need recent versions of cdrecord and mkisofs.

Graft provides a mechanism for managing multiple packages under a single directory hierarchy. It was inspired by both Depot (from Carnegie Mellon University) and Stow (by Bob Glickstein). Packages are installed in self-contained directory trees and symbolic links from a common area are made to the package files.
