Krusader is an advanced twin-panel (commander-style) file-manager for KDE 3.x, but with many extras. It provides all the file-management features you could possibly want. It also features extensive archive handling, mounted filesystem support, FTP, an advanced search module, a text viewer/editor, directory synchronization, support for file content comparisons, powerful batch renaming, and much more. It supports the following archive formats: tar, zip, bzip2, gzip, rar, ace, arj, and rpm. It can also handle other KIOSlaves such as smb:// or fish://.
pngcrush is an excellent batch-mode compression utility for PNG images. Depending on the application that created the original PNGs, it can improve the file size anywhere from a few percent to 40% or more (completely losslessly). The utility also allows specified PNG chunks (e.g. text comments) to be inserted or deleted, and it can fix incorrect gamma info written by Photoshop 5.0 as well as the erroneous iCCP chunk written by Photoshop 5.5.
iOta (Image Organization Tool and Archiver) is a tool to manage, organize, index, archive, and Web-publish your digital photography collection. It is backed by a BerkeleyDB database. The KDE/QT based front-end is designed to be simple, yet powerful. iOta allows the user to generate, uniquely rename, and index images to an embedded database. The user can also caption and describe each image, generate thumbnails and browsable HTML indexes, archive directories of images onto CDR, and search and edit properties of each photograph in the user's collection. In addition, all this information also travels with the image itself in the thumbnail EXIF header.
ImageBackup is a fully automatic incremental backup system for digital pictures. It will create backup CDs, one at a time, until all images have been backed up. You than then run the program regularly and it will keep gathering images until another disc is full. Once a disc is full, it can use AutoScrapbook to create Web-based index files, automatically generate an ISO image, and reset the staging area. Once an image has been stored in a backup ISO image, it will not be backed up again. Any new images, regardless of where they are mixed into your directory structure, will be added to backups when necessary.
Image Leech is an automated image downloading program written in Perl. It will take a given address and retrieve all links to images and download. Each file downloaded can be renamed to prevent conflicts and to create an easily viewable collection. Other features include the ability to filter given Web pages, and traverse linked pages.
SortImagesGUI is a Java Swing application for sorting still images from digital cameras by capture date from the EXIF header. The images are sorted into subfolders by year, month, and day. Most of the EXIF-metadata are inserted into a MySQL database with the MD5 sum of the image file as a primary key. This makes it easy to find out if an image already exists.
WebPack is a shell script for automatically packing Web sites by shrinking them without affecting their functionality or appearance. It is also useful for losslessly shrinking image collections and locating corrupt files. It works by stripping unnecessary information and optimizing the compression of images, and by removing comments/whitespace from HTML, using readily-available tools.
